UW Information Technology (UW-IT) is the central information technology organization for the University of Washington (UW), responsible for strategic planning, oversight, and direction of the UW’s IT infrastructure, resources, and services. UW-IT provides critical technology support to all three campuses, UW medical centers, and research operations around the world. UW-IT partners with the UW community to enable innovation, learning, discovery, and service.
UW-IT’s IT Infrastructure Division (ITI) provides knowledgeable system design and administration, software engineering, and operational support for academic systems, administrative systems, and research computing.
The Managed Workstation Service (MWS) within ITI oversees a managed workstation environment with more than 3,000 desktops that includes back-end infrastructure (such as file services and configuration management tools), Windows client OS images, data collection/reporting, and integrations with other infrastructure.
UW-IT has an outstanding full time opportunity for a Windows System Engineer Tier 3.
The ideal candidate for this Windows Engineer position will be a team-oriented IT professional, who is experienced in managing and maintaining Microsoft Windows workstations and servers at scale, including: designing, integrating, and implementing systems and applications in support of a managed workstation service within a diverse, distributed enterprise environment. This position uses PowerShell to remotely manage thousands of end user workstations and collect data from various systems of record to ensure that workstations are functioning efficiently, securely, and responsively. This position supports the research, teaching, and administrative missions of the University in a 24x 7 environment.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Requires a minimum of three years’ technical experience managing and maintaining Windows 7 and/or Windows 10 in an Active Directory (AD) domain environment.
Demonstrated skill in troubleshooting and resolving complex problems with Windows 7 and/or Windows 10.
Experience with Windows client OS deployments using Operating System
Deployment (OSD), Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT), Imaging and Configuration Designer(ICD), or Windows Deployment Services (WDS).
Experience with System Center Configuration Manager (2012 R2 or 2016), InTune or similar configuration management tools.
Experience with PowerShell for task automation, remote systems management, configuration, and/or data collection/reporting.
Experience with Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI)
Experience with Windows file services and Distributed File Services (DFS)
Experience with Windows networking
Experience with Bitlocker
Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and apply new technologies.
Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision, both independently and as part of a team.
Demonstrated analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
Demonstrated excellent written/oral communication skills, technical documentation skills, user liaison skills and personal interaction abilities.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
DESIRED:
Experience managing Windows clients at scale is highly desired.
Knowledge of system security practices, intrusion detection, auditing, and mitigation methods on Windows OS.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Working conditions include typical office environments and university data centers.
This is an essential position and is required to reportly to work when UW suspends operations.
Position participates in a 24x7 on-call rotation and must be able to support go-lives and respond to outages during off-hours.
