We are seeking an outstanding candidate to be a Private Equity Valuation Specialist. The Private Equity valuation group is a new team within Citi that will be responsible for all Equity Investments and Private Equity across Citi globally.
This role will require expertise knowledge of Private Equity valuation issues across all areas of VCGs responsibilities globally, and cross-product.  The role requires technical understanding of the techniques used to value Private Equity investments (e.g. DCF, Comparables etc.).
The individual in this role will be interacting with Senior Management within Finance, Front Office and Risk Management and will support the development of a strong Private Equity valuation framework and the application of consistent valuation controls at Citi.
Strong communications and negotiation skills are vital. The successful candidate needs to demonstrate an ability to communicate complex ideas concisely and effectively.  The role also involves ensuring global consistency and working with the respective Finance, Accounting Policy and Risk Managers across
Valuation Control Group (VCG) is a cornerstone of the Product Control function. The function is organized into product-aligned teams including a dedicated Valuation Control team. The product scope is comprehensive and includes a full range of security and derivative products.
The key responsibilities of the Private Equity Valuations team are to perform the independent price verification for Private Equity Investments owned by Citi; develop and implement standards and best practices for the necessary valuation controls; and provide subject matter expertise for accounting and disclosure requirements. 
There will be regular interaction with a wide variety of other functions within Markets and Banking globally and within the Global Product Control organization.
Primary Responsibility
  • Producing and implementing guidelines / procedures for fair valuation adjustments and price testing of Private Equity investments across the group.
  • Ensuring timely remediation of regulatory matters requiring attention, audit findings and associated reporting demands associated with the area of responsibility
  • Development of appropriate controls to effectively ensure compliance with Policies and Standards pertaining to valuation control
  • Acting as first point of escalation with regards to any discrepancies and price variance breaches
  • Identifying pricing issues, valuation parameters or instrument types that may require particular attention with critical analysis of the valuation issues involved
People Management and Leadership
  • Demonstrates leadership skills and an ability to work across Regions and Businesses.
  • Acting as a business partner to the Business, Risk, Compliance and Finance
  • Managing / developing the Buffalo team
Control Framework
  • Enhancement and effective management of the VCG control and governance framework associated with the Private Equity valuations.
Development Value
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to play a leadership role within the Private Equities Valuation Control Team


  • Experience in Private Equity Valuation or related asset classes required
  • Understanding of current global accounting and regulatory developments pertaining to valuation of financial instruments
  • Ability to understand complex concepts and effectively challenge peers in Finance, Risk and the Business
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral

  • A Bachelors or Masters degree in any finance, economics or quantitative related subject.
