Position Summary:

 Demonstrate a solid understanding of mechanical engineering principles which can be applied to product improvements for safety shut-off and control valve products.  Strong background preferred in electro-mechanical and electro-pneumatic actuator design as well as rising stem and swinging gate valve body designs.  Understand and be proficient in the use of engineering documentation, change processes and business systems and the ability to trouble shoot and identify root cause.  Serve as the lead contact person for issues concerning valve related agency approvals.  As required by business, works closely with other engineering disciplines and other departments in the realm of (but not limited to) materials specification, process specification, cost cutting measures, assembly enhancements, machining enhancements, and special product features/enhancements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the design, costing, and implementation of product modifications.  
  • Support production in the machining and assembly of standard products and special enhancements.
  • Coordinate component geometry, material, and process specs with purchasing and vendors.
  • Support sales on field problems as required.
  • Support quality control.  Maintain engineering documentation for standard products.
  • Coordinate the activities of designers, drafters, and technicians assigned to the tasks.
  • Estimate personnel and equipment needs and assign work to meet completion dates.
  • Review progress with management.
  • Establish test procedures to be used by production for selected products.
  • Act as liaison with agency contacts and notified bodies to communicate proposed drawing changes, design changes, technical documentation changes, and/or changes to the Quality system and update related approval documents.
  • Coordinate and communicate all relevant activities necessary to comply with standards, laboratory approvals, or European Directives (including ATEX) to other departments.
  • Works under general supervision and operates with substantial latitude for unreviewed action and/or decision. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.


  • Bachelors degree in Engineering
  • 2+ years of experience in valve product development and/or support
  • 2+ years of experience involving the coordination of design, costing and implementation of product modifications


  • Experience with global agency approvals such as FM, CSA, UL, BSI, etc., preferred
  • Strong design, project management and analytical skills are necessary for product improvement and implementation
  • Problem solving skills are required utilizing €œbig picture€ thinking as well as the ability to solve day to day challenges quickly and effectively
  • Effective communication with engineers, supply chain, operations, marketing, customers and managers is required
  • Drive projects to completion demonstrating the ability to be self-motivated, detail, action and process oriented
  • Maintain engineering documentation for standard products
