The Value Engineering (VE) Manager performs several highly important roles within the organization. They are responsible for research, planning, and implementing new value engineering efforts and protocols of existing products. This individual should have experience designing and productizing material handling equipment and robotic cells. Must be able to evaluate products and determine most effective methods of reducing cost through manufacturing processes and component design while maintaining or enhancing value.


 


The VE manager is responsible for overseeing the entire value engineering process of existing products and programs within the company, from the initial planning phase to implementation or production. You will need to keep track of all the costs related to the value add and value engineering of these existing products and decide what ideas are worth pursuing. You will need to work closely with the sales team to help identify client needs. The VE manager should also stay informed on what is happening in the manufacturing / research and development field at large in order to make sure their company is up-to-date and current with the most advanced manufacturing processes and component developments. As a manager, you will also have important managerial and administrative responsibilities and will oversee employees that make up the VE team.


 


It is important to be able to see the big picture as you will have to envision projects from start to finish. At the same time, having a keen ability to pay attention to details is important, the VE manager ultimately needs to closely supervise every step of the value engineering process for existing products. Leadership and managerial skills are also important in this role, as well as the ability to communicate well with colleagues and lower-level staff. A strong sense of creativity will also aid in the process of thinking of value-added product ideas and solving problems creatively for product lines.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities



  • Identifies project planning documents: schedule, master budget, forecast

  • Assists with managing the creation and execution of commissioning plans, acceptance testing and customer sign-offs

  • Assists with project close-out which include turnover to Customer Service and Engineering

  • Attends the following meetings: turnover, kick-off, project planning, installation kick-off, design, development and department

  • Responsible for management of a team or group of employees.

  • Ensure that program objectives are determined and met, logistics are effectively coordinated, and budgets are adhered to.

  • Provide technical oversight and expertise as required.

  • Plan and implement the development of new processes in areas of value engineering.

  • Attends or conducts weekly project status meetings

  • Attends design reviews and approvals

  • Updates schedules/forecasts; manages costs

  • Creates notes for and attends VE Planning Meetings

  • Makes occasional site visits

  • Participates in proposal efforts/sales support

  • Creates project planning documents: schedule, master budget, forecast

  • Conducts project planning and weekly status meetings; Monitors and manages VE process

  • Creates and administers commissioning plan, acceptance testing and internal sign-offs

  • Coordinates go-live support, spare parts, training, and project documentation

  • Manages project close-out which include turnover to Customer Service and Engineering

  • Interface with management & clients directly, providing regular updates of project status



Requirements



  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering preferred

  • 5-10 years of technical experience in designing and developing products preferred

  • Knowledge of engineering principles and practices related to the concept and design of conveyor systems and material handling

  • Knowledge of managerial accounting principles and practices, contract language, and the analysis and reporting of financial data

  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in project management, strategic project planning, resource allocation, project leadership technique, and overall coordination of people and resources

  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing solid customer service; this includes meeting quality standards for installation, and evaluation of customer satisfaction

  • Initiative to take on responsibilities and challenges without hesitation; self starter

  • Ability to think analytically; use judgement and decision making skills

  • Ability to analyze information and use logic to address work-related problems; consider the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to make the most appropriate choice

  • Ability to understand lean methodology and initiatives; consistently looking for ways to improve

  • Excellent communication, multi-tasking, and time-management skills

  • Ability to anticipate, size, and mitigate risk

  • MS Office (Visio, PowerPoint, Excel and Word); AutoCAD (basic)

  • MS Project / Project Server

  • Travel required up to 15% of the job

  • AutoCAD Inventor Experience

  • Experience mentoring employees
