Universal Acceptance (UA) Program Manager

Job Summary:

The Manager of Universal Acceptance (UA) Program will manage the planning and execution of the UA program at ICANN. This requires managing the development and implementation of the annual plans for UA Program and action plans of the community-led Universal Acceptance Steering Group (UASG). The UA Program manager will also liaise with ICANN internal teams, including the Global Stakeholder Engagement, Communications and Government Engagement functions, to achieve the UA Program goals. Duties include managing multiple projects for UA as identified by UASG and ICANN, supporting multiple working groups and activities of UASG, supporting UA program’s communications and undertaking active outreach to promote UA.

Key Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Develop a strong global community network for promoting UA, engaging and expanding the current group of volunteers who are actively contributing to UA working groups.
  • Plan, initiate and actively manage the UA related projects for the UA Program and report on their progress.
  • Contribute in publishing and disseminating findings and outcomes of UA projects.
  • Develop reports and make presentation on UA related progress to ICANN, UASG and the community.
  • Travel to present on the progress on UA Program as needed.
  • Support UA working groups, including their meetings and collaboration.
  • Manage UA program budget, contracting and its reporting.
  • Support UA related administrative tasks, including scheduling and managing meetings, email lists, domain registrations, wiki pages and webpages.
  • Other duties as assigned or requested.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

  • Demonstrated experience in project management and able to organize and coordinate multiple projects concurrently.
  • Experienced in people management and leading complex projects.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and able to influence and motivate external stakeholder (“community”) working groups.
  • Culturally sensitive and experienced in working in diverse environments.
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills and experienced in analyzing and combining information and conclusions from multiple inputs into clear written reports.
  • Able to organize community-based events and meetings.
  • Able to travel as needed including a the ability to travel internationally without restrictions.
  • Ability to work flexibly outside of normal working hours as needed to support community working group meetings across different time zones.
  • Have a good understanding of programming languages and platforms, web-based client-server applications, content management systems and internationalization and localization of applications to be able to understand and manage UA related projects.
  • Understand of the Internet Infrastructure, Doman Name System (DNS), Internet Protocols, preferably including those relevant to internationalized domain names and email address internationalization.
  • Fluent in written and spoken in English; fluency in any of the other official United Nations languages will be advantageous.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • A bachelor’s in Information technology (IT) or a related field is required; an advanced post-graduate degree is preferred.
  • At least eight years of work experience with three years of software development or IT administration experience required.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills, with significant experience in communicating in culturally diverse settings as well as writing and reviewing technical reports.
  • Experience gained in an international organization or environment is strongly preferred.
