Position Summary:

Responsible for the management and oversight of the day to day engineering operations at Third Party Manufacturers (TPM) at the US TPM Manufacturing sites or Libre Sensor Kit manufacturing. Provide direction and leadership to the TPM Engineering team with the purpose to optimize assets at multiple TPM sites to deliver reliable supply of Libre Sensor kits to meet planned output requirements. Work with TPM Operations management across sites to establish a consistent approach to achieve best practice support with value focus for sensor kit manufacturing processes

Provide Technical onsite engineering leadership for the expansion of the Freestyle Libre Sensor Kit manufacturing process expansion to a new TPM site in Buffalo Grove, Illinois.  The onsite engineering team will provide the first line support to TPM manufacturing team both through startup and post launch. The team will be the onsite experts on the manufacturing process, interfacing with ADC counterparts in alternate TPM sites in Ireland.

Responsible for providing updates to SMR and EMR with respect to supplier process equipment performance. Deliver all aspects of program to Operations budgetary constraints, challenging spends and driving cost savings wherever possible. Ensures that all aspects of the process are compliant with EHS regulations and Abbott engineering and technical standards. Create KPI template for the TPM Manufacturing sites to provide data on process performance for reporting and to focus improvement activities. Lead Team to build relationships with Technical Engineering Managers to ensure best practice is consistent and rolled out across TPM facilities. Promote and monitor continuous improvement projects to reduce engineering / operations costs through CIP or PPV. Work with Technical Engineering Managers to develop spares strategy for Capital equipment across multiple TPM facilities. Provide direction on inventory and asset set up on Maximo Asset Management System, develop training for each TPM site so holistic view of TPM assets and inventory is achieved. Establish process for recording and scheduling of maintenance activities (PM, DM, Calibrations) on TPM equipment to provide consistency in maintenance records to support Compliance, Reporting, Investigation and Continuous Improvement activities. Responsible for developing world class maintenance excellence program in conjunction with TPM colleagues in Ireland.  Establish Goals and ensure that best practice engineering standards are maintained across the organization. Team focus on ownership of product availability and productivity is optimized and develop personnel with regard to supporting capital equipment with a Continuous Improvement Reliability focused methodology. Develop and team to become process SMEs with regard to all new capital equipment. Review and agree engineering resource levels on TPM facilities to ensure continuity of service. Coach and Mentor team members on performance and development needs. Responsible for developing, maintaining and promoting good working relationship within the group and other ADC Departments and TPM Manufacturing sites. Responsible for ensuring that the Department quality system is implemented and that its effectiveness is maintained (e.g. Training Records, closure of ER/CAPAs, DM PM activities). Manage the metric for Work Order completion to ensure target levels are achieved. Responsible for compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies and performing other duties as assigned by management.


Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in engineering discipline and 8 + years of experience with an operations engineering environment.  Mechanical Engineer degree desired.  Advanced degree desirable not necessary. Able to demonstrate a sound knowledge of design control, validation in a GMP environment. Proven track record of managing and successfully delivering complex projects. Able to demonstrate the ability to manage cross functional relationships including external stakeholders. Experience in the improvement and optimization of a highly complex high volume automation equipment. A proven problem solver who can set clear strategy and priorities. Supervisory or Managerial experience would be an advantage. A proven ability to communicate effectively at all levels. Ability to take prompt action to accomplish objectives and to work under own initiative.
