Therapist - Chronic Pain Management

Management of the comprehensive pain management and mind body wellness programs. Role includes partnering with multidisciplinary team members to provide evaluation, diagnosis, treatment planning, case management & psychotherapeutic interventions.

Essential Responsibilities:
  •  Operates the Regional Pain Program by leading in the development of processes, procedures and systems to assure efficient delivery of high quality, affordable, integrated care for patients with chronic pain. Organize and develop resources to deliver and continuously improve the components of the program.
  • Develops, implements, coordinates, and evaluates clinical treatment programs for the diagnosis, treatment, and/or referral of Health Plan members referred to the Comprehensive Pain Management Program.  Assesses and manages psychological issues for patients entering the chronic pain program which will be done at an individual level and in a group setting and consults with other departments as needed for co-management of care.
  • Administers specialized therapeutic procedures such as cognitive behavioral (CBT) therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and meditation/relaxation techniques, biofeedback, hypnosis.  Evaluates patient candidacy for implantable interventional pain procedures, such as spinal cord stimulation and intrathecal pump placement.
  • Responsible for teaching and coordinating educational activities for patients in pain and other group classes.  Teaches sessions in the community and at KP Wellness events on pain management and mind body wellness.
  • Partners with the department Chief and leadership to develop, implement and manage the budget for the department, including the Chronic Pain Management Program and the Mind Body Wellness programs.
  • Development, planning, implementation and evaluation of a regional integrated pain program for the Mid-Atlantic States. Develop processes, procedures and systems to assure efficient delivery of high quality, affordable, integrated care for patients with chronic pain. Organize and develop human and material resources to deliver and continuously improve the components of the program.
  • Partner with the Physician Director to lead a regional multi-modality Pain Service Team and a Regional Pain Board to ensure appropriate quality activities, effective business decisions and member satisfaction. Develop programs to enhance the self-care capacity, functionality and comfort of members with chronic pain. Manage and oversee the Mind Body Programs within the Department of Integrative Medicine, including Mind Body Wellness for cancer patients, behavioral health services provided within the Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) Clinics and the Congestive Heart Failure program.
  • Direct Supervision of Mind Body Coordinators and clinical support staff. Manage and monitor performance by hiring, supervising and evaluating staff. Establish accountabilities and performance goals. Provide counseling and coaching for staff development. Develop and implement new patient education programs as needed. Provide direct patient care services in both group and individual contact settings. Participate in evidence based research.
  • Develop and monitor budgets (payroll, non-payroll, and capital) for assigned cost centers. Manage and monitor referrals for pain related services.
  • Address and resolve patient complaints and issues to assure member satisfaction and improve the quality of care. Conduct individual patient evaluation and ongoing clinical Mind Body treatment as needed for patients in the department.
