General Overview

The Technology Operations Managers role is to supervise and ensure the efficient operation of the companys network, client servers, databases, and equipment and supervise and maintain the organizations enterprise software applications through best practices and the appropriate staffing and management technical teams. This includes managing the IT staff responsible for enterprise monitoring systems and diagnosing network and server/storage problems including on-premise, co-located and in a multi-cloud hosting environment. The role is also responsible for planning and coordinating the processes required for the support of enterprise user applications and systems necessary for business operations.  A key component of this role is managing Rotarys DevOps practice to provide infrastructure management and monitoring expertise, to set up a continuous integration/delivery pipeline as well as to facilitate, monitor and review software development/automation operations.


You Will Have

  • Four-year college diploma or university degree in computer systems design or computer science, and/or 10 years equivalent work experience.

  • 5+ years of direct management experience leading a technological support team

  • 5+ years of experience with cloud and/or SaaS operations

  • 5+ years application support experience with PeopleSoft, SAP, SharePoint, & .Net applications.

  • 3+ years of experience with Infrastructure Automation / DevOps tools

  • Strong technical knowledge of network and PC operating systems, including Cisco, Windows & Linux.

  • Strong technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and standards

  • Solid knowledge of operating in cloud-based environments, especially Azure & Oracle cloud

  • Experience in deploying, managing and optimizing enterprise monitoring infrastructure, such as SolarWinds

  • Direct, hands-on experience with automated software management tools such as Teamcity, Terraform, Docker & Kubernetes

  • Proven experience in IT infrastructure support planning and process development.

  • Proven experience in overseeing the implementation and support processes required for enterprise software solutions.

  • Expertise in software process automation

  • Demonstrable experience with operating environments /scripting languages

  • Hands-on experience implementing Continuous Integration & Delivery

  • Strong knowledge of system and software quality assurance best practices and methodologies.

  • Excellent understanding of Security as part of DevOps

  • Good project management skills and/or substantial exposure to project-based work structures.

  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.

  • Strong understanding of human resource management principles, practices, and procedures.

You Will Be Responsible For

Strategy & Planning

  • Lead IT department operational planning and projects, and organize and negotiate the allocation of IT resources.

  • Ensure the efficient utilization of IT resources including personnel and equipment across the organization.

  • Oversee all reports and documentation related to network and systems operations.

  • Develop maintenance schedules for network and systems equipment.

  • Conduct system feasibility studies and testing.

  • Review and analyze existing applications effectiveness and efficiency, and then develop strategies for improving or leveraging these systems.

  • Ensure that applications meet business requirements and systems goals, fulfill end-user requirements, and identify and resolve systems issues.

  • Cultivate and disseminate knowledge of application-usage best practices.

  • Work independently and collaboratively to set up a continuous build environment to facilitate and accelerate software development as well as deployment

  • Champion DevSecOps principles and practices

Acquisition & Deployment

  • Manage the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrade, and support of IT systems, including networks, data centers, servers, PCs, operating systems, and associated hardware.

  • Analyze existing operations and make recommendations for the improvement and growth of the network infrastructure and IT systems.

  • Conduct research and remain current with the latest technologies and solutions in support of procurement efforts.

  • Develop requests for proposal for operational support teams

  • Collaborate with analysts, designers, and system owners in the testing of new software programs and applications.

  • Analyze documentation and technical specifications of any new application under deployment or consideration to determine its intended functionality.

  • Ensure that any new software integration into company systems meets functional requirements, system compliance, and interface specifications.

  • Design, develop, and install application enhancements and upgrades.

  • Contribute to pre-testing phase of development by evaluating proposals in order to identify potential problem areas, and make the appropriate recommendations.

  • Plan, test, and implement infrastructure and appropriate environments

  • Provide guidance and infrastructure support to software development teams

Operational Management

  • Practice asset management for IT hardware, software, and equipment.

  • Manage operations staffing, including recruitment, supervision, scheduling, development, evaluation, and disciplinary actions.

  • Oversee operations-related projects and project portfolio.

  • Manage and provide direction for the application team in support of business operations.

  • Liaise with network administrators and software engineers to assist with quality assurance, program logic, and data processing.

  • Compile and maintain inventory of company software and systems assets and their corresponding contracts/agreements.

  • Monitor, Review, Streamline and Improve technical operations

  • Monitor and Inspect automation, Version Control and Security across the pipeline

  • Recognize areas of improvement in the development /deployment lifecycle and recommend action plans.

Other duties as assigned

  • Other duties may include, but are not limited to, working with Rotarys customers on inquiries, leading department meetings, working on special projects, and testing system updates.
