One Full-time (100% FTE) Faculty Position for Teaching Associate/ARNP or Physician Assistant
Electrophysiology Outpatient and Inpatient Services

Faculty Appointment:  Teaching Associate/ARNP or PAC (without tenure) position in the Division of Cardiology is a one-year appointment, renewable annually.  (JCC:0169). University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service

Job Description: Electrophysiology ARNP/PAC will function as a member of the Electrophysiology Section providing both inpatient and outpatient services at UWMC.  This individual will be responsible for the following services:
1. Admission and discharge of patients who are on the post-procedure electrophysiology service (Cardiology E Service) working in collaboration with the fellows who are training in Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology, other Advanced Practice Providers and EP attending physicians.
2. Support the electrophysiology program by arranging appropriate pre-procedure studies, laboratory tests and performing admission history and physical exams when patients are admitted for their procedure. The ARNP/PAC  will also assist in the discharge of these patients following their ablation procedure and provide outpatient follow-up under the direction of the EP attending physician. The ARNP/PAC will also help to maintain the ventricular tachycardia (VT) and atrial fibrillation (AF) ablation program databases.
3. Outpatient new patient evaluations and follow up: The ARNP/PAC will work with EP attendings in working up new patients and independently perform follow-up appointments for patients, who have undergone an electrophysiology procedure or need EP follow up for. The ARNP/PAC may also perform ICD and pacemaker interrogations in the dedicated EP Device Clinic, on in-patients, as well as performing remote follow-up device interrogations.
4. Assist EP attending physicians in evaluation of un-scheduled drop-in patients, who require device interrogation or urgent follow up from EP procedures.

Reports to: Section Head of Electrophysiology with day-to-day reporting to the requisite EP attending physicians.  


1. Current, valid and unencumbered Washington State Registered Nurse and Advanced Registered Nurse Licensure with prescriptive authority or
2. Current, valid and unencumbered Washington State Physician Assistant License
3. Masters Degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program or foreign equivalent or
4. Masters Degree in Physician Assistant Studies or foreign equivalent
5. Certification by a national board certifying organization.
6. Proven excellence working in an interdisciplinary collaborative team environment.
7. Effective interpersonal skills, leadership skills, and clinical expertise in patient care.
8. Training and/or experience in the provision of inpatient and outpatient care including: initial and ongoing assessment, diagnostic evaluation, and management of patients with significant cardiac disease.
9. Prior experience in CCU / ICU /or cardiac telemetry ward / and/or experience with cardiac procedures is preferred.


1. Assumes major responsibility for the direct care of patients in the outpatient setting as outlined in the job description above and the day-to-day management of and/or admission and discharge responsibilities for the patients admitted to the Cardiology E service. This job will be performed with close collaboration with the attending physicians and senior trainees.
2. Works collaboratively and under the general direction of the Electrophysiology attending physicians.
3. Provides timely initial assessment, diagnostic evaluation, management, and follow-up of EP patients as appropriate to the specific job task.
4. Participates in the interdisciplinary evaluation, management, and follow-up of patients using appropriate clinical practice guidelines.
5. Collaborates with the Electrophysiology team including physicians, fellows, other APPs, nursing staff, and other providers to insure coordination and continuity of care for Electrophysiology patients across settings and over time.
6. Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings and serves as a resource for staff.
7. Provides patient and/or family centered care by including patient and/or family in health care decision making; providing health education, counseling and referrals to other health professionals and resources.
8. Participates as a key member of the interdisciplinary team through the development of collaborative and innovative practices and evaluation of patient care outcomes.  Translating research and other forms of knowledge to improve practice processes and patient outcomes.
9. Evaluates quality outcomes for the Electrophysiology team through participation in the development of quality indicators for the AF ablation program and device follow-up clinic.
10. Provides other duties as requested which are consistent with the advanced practice nursing role.


Following a training period of 30 90 days (which varies depending on background, previous training and experience), the candidate will participate in daily rounds, admission, daily care, discharge of Cardiology E service patients, participate in the outpatient EP referral clinics, as well as the ICD and pacemaker device follow up clinics.  This APP will work a full-time schedule and collaborate with attending physician, fellows, residents and other APPs to establish patient care plans and outpatient follow-up.  The chosen candidate will be expected to attend Electrophysiology conferences on Tuesday mornings at 7:30 am. They will be encouraged to attend Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery conferences on Wednesday mornings and Cardiology Grand Rounds on Friday mornings and any other conferences of the Electrophysiology Section.
