Job Description:

As a Systems Security Engineer Lead, you’ll work on an active Next Generation class Open Systems Architecture Mission System program. The program uses leading edge technologies and has full responsibility for maintaining multiple environments in geographically dispersed locations. This position supports the Advanced Systems & Technologies (AS&T) division, which specializes in developing disruptive, next-generation technologies for advanced Unmanned Air Systems (UAS / UAV), advanced radar systems, next-generation weapon systems, and other RF sensor technologies using small company agility and big company experience using small company agility and big company experience.

Essential Functions:

  • Interface with our System Engineers, members of the information systems security team, and our customers, with deliverables including SSPs and program protection plans.
  • Provide broad support in all aspects of Security System Architecture, Risk management, Security Control, Information Assurance, Vulnerability Analysis, and compliance definition in matters relating to System Security
  • Work with cross functional team members to design, develop, implement and document security solutions
  • Create and map requirements from relevant sources such as the Risk Management Framework (RMF)
  • Work with System Integrator, System Architect, System Engineers, System Administrators, and CPSO to ensure that relevant capabilities can be integrated into the developed systems based on the principles of Defense in Depth, including but not limited to requirements validation, security architecture and design, and producing appropriate milestone documentation for customer governance bodies
  • Author, maintain, and update the System Security Plans (SSPs) as part of the Assessment and Authorization (A&A) process, Program Protection Implementation Plans
  • Assist in creating a Plan of Action & Milestones (POA&M)
  • Follow up on and manage security risks, identify gaps and formulate mitigations.
  • Perform Security trade-off analyses
  • Design assessments of systems and networks within the network environment or enclave and identify where those systems/networks deviate from acceptable configurations, enclave policy, or local policy.
  • Monitor trends in Cyber and System Assurance that could have an impact on the security of the organization's products, processes, infrastructure, or customers
  • Assure that the project successfully achieves Authority to Operate (ATO) at the designated level
  • Other duties as required


    • U.S. citizen
    • Existing DoD clearance with a current 5-year update; must be able to obtain additional clearances as required
    • Bachelor degree in Engineering or Science is required
    • Defense industry experience
    • 10+ years’ experience performing and providing security support to hardware, software, and applications.
    • Prior experience utilizing systems engineering principles for requirements on a technical effort.
    • Previous experience developing and accessing various artifacts such as SOWs, requirements and test documents.
    • Trusted Computing and Risk Management Framework (RMF), and a mission systems background.
    • Experience with 8570.01/8140 certification process
    • Knowledge of trusted computing
    • Knowledge of the Risk Management Framework (RMF), Committee on National Security Systems (CNSS) Instruction 1253 and the National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST) 800-53 security controls
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products
    • Must be able to travel up to 10%

      Preferred Additional Skills:

      • Masters degree in Engineering or Science is required
      • Maintain Risk Management Framework accreditation packages and work within accreditation tracking tools.
      • Significant knowledge of  Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) in order to plan and select access controls for protecting sensitive and classified information.
      • Full understanding of background and context for identification, authentication, and security settings embedded within STIG documents.
      • Identify and work with open source software operating systems; Knowledge of TEMPEST enforcement; understand CAC/PKI technology
      • Understand software  testing, evaluation, and Common Vulnerability Enumeration
      • Insight into Common Criteria requirements; Insight into FIPS 140-2 standards.
      • Familiarity with radar system components including antenna, receiver, exciter, and processor
      • Excellent people skills, with experience leading and collaborating in a multi-disciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team environment.

      • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, & presentation)
