We have an exciting opportunity for a Systems Engineer in our Research and Development group located in Rancho Bernardo, CA. Under general directions with limited review, this position is responsible for applying Systems Engineering principals and methods to the development of complex systems, often involving state-of-the-art technologies. Provides key program support for the implementation of the technical scope of work and inter-IPT coordination.

  • Interface with customers, document customer needs and requirements.
  • Perform operational assessments and identify integrating platform constraints.
  • Develop the Concept of Operations (CONOPS).
  • Working with design engineers and technical staff, perform requirements analysis, develop and manage hardware and software requirement specifications, perform bi-directional traceability, develop an RVTM.
  • Identify and track Technical Performance Measures (TPMs).
  • Perform functional analysis & decomposition; Develop the functional architecture.
  • Support development of Interface Control Documents (ICDs).
  • Participate in Design Reviews such as an SRR, PDR, CDR and Test and Operation Readiness reviews as required.
  • Facilitate risk management: identify risks, develop mitigation plans, maintain risk database.
  • Work closely with specialty engineering: system safety; reliability, availability, and maintainability; system security; EMI/EMC; logistics.
  • Utilize requirements management database (DOORS) and functional analysis tools that include Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), Functional Flow Block Diagrams (FFBDs), and N-squared (N2) diagrams.
  • Support the development of test plans and participate in system integration and verification testing.
  • Document findings, communicate results to engineering and program staff, make technical presentations.
  • Provide support for proposals/white papers.
  • Support change control of configuration baselines.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

  • Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; six or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, four or more years of experience with a masters degree, or two or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
  • US Citizenship is required.
  • Demonstrated experience in the application of Systems Engineering principals and methods, including requirements development, functional architecture development, interface definition and control, and risk management.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance is required.
  • Experience in writing technical documents.
  • Experience in communicating technical information to peers and customers.
  • Working knowledge/experience of systems operating in Air, Sea, and Land environments.
  • Knowledge/experience in the design, development and integration of DoD systems is desired.
  • Have a desire to work in a fast-paced development environment.
  • Must be able to work extended hours and travel, as needed.
  • Good computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio), communication skills (verbal and written), and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required enabling an effective interface with customers and other departments and/or professionals; capable of representing the organization as a prime technical contact, as well as providing leadership and guidance to less experienced professionals.
