A Day in the Life

Systems Engineer I position within the RD organization of Medtronics
Spine Business contributes to the development of world class medical product
for Spinal Surgery.The role partners with other systems engineers
on a team to manage the flow of system and product requirements derived from
voice of customer through the commercialization process.Specific tasks include the following:


+ Assists in defining requirements for spinal systems and featuresthat meet the expectations and uses of the customer, regulatory agencies, andthe business.

+ Performs analyses to aid in the definition, evaluation, and riskanalysis of system designs across functional groups. This includesunderstanding system interfaces, use cases and conditions, investigating andresolving system issues, making improvements to address customer feedback andrequests, and performing system-level testing activities.

+ Translates customer needs into specific, well-written, highquality stakeholder and system requirements.

+ Verifies that system requirements have been properly implemented(writing, leveling, tracing) through inspection, demonstration, test oranalysis.

+ Performs system validation activities ensuring the system meetsuser needs and intended use.

+ Documents tradeoffs, rationale, and potential solutions.

+ Builds domain knowledge around medical device-based systems,their clinical use and application via project experience, literature searchesand training.

+ Ensures personal understanding of all quality policy/systemitems that are applicable. Follows all work/quality procedures to ensurequality system compliance and high quality work.


Must HaveMinimum Qualifications

BS in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems
Engineering, or related field.


Nice to Have

Engineering MS degree preferred.


Spinal and/or
general orthopedic knowledge and experience

Prior medical device internship or research experience


Experience with Matlab or other modeling software


Exposure to System Engineering discipline or use of
system engineering methodologies through either prior internships or course
work.

Experience working in cross-functional and team environments.


SKILLS ABILITIES:


Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills


Excellent written and communication skills


Experience in requirements development, analysis, and/or
verification/validation


Ability of working in a deadline driven environment


Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
