The Accounting Policy Group is an integral component of finance's risk management process. The group operates as an in-house consultancy unit providing independent technical advice on accountancy matters to finance, risk and the business. The primary focus is to support high quality accounting and reporting standards within the parameters of US GAAP and IFRS. See list below for detail:

Identify corporate accounting issues (e.g., as relates toCash and Share-Based Compensation, Pensions, etc.), research technical position, and advise internal clients on appropriate accounting guidance

Work with Regional and Business accounting policy teams to establish and enforce compliance with Corporate Accounting Policys Best practices and New Standards Implementation Guidelines on a uniform world-wide basis.

Follow all relevant US GAAP standard setting and other technical accounting updates and interpretations affecting Citigroup and disseminate weekly updates to teammates

Assist in establishing, updating, and reviewing Citi's Accounting Policy Manual on an ad hoc and periodic basis to reflect changes in guidance and practice

Identify, analyze, and provide guidance on emerging GAAP to impacted counterparts within the company as well as Finance staff through periodic technical trainings

Provide support to Global Accounting Policy team and Controllers on technical accounting matters as related to corporate accounting issues

- Preparing and delivering presentations to facilitate firm-wide education of new or changing accounting requirements to ensure that management understands the impact of new standards and regulations

- Assisting implementation efforts for new accounting standards, primarily US GAAP but including IFRS


Qualifications


- Bachelor's or Master's degree in accounting required.

- Knowledge of accounting and financial instruments under US GAAP and knowledge of financial markets is required, as is approximately 6-8 years or more of relevant work experience. Audit experience with a national CPA firm or accounting policy experience in another financial institution a plus.

- Technical accounting and FASB experience a major plus.

- We are looking for a really bright person with an aptitude for technical financial accounting standards.

- The individual must possess excellent interpersonal and client service skills and have the ability to work closely and confidently with many different levels of management on the business side.

- Excellent writing and verbal skills are essential. An ability to communicate clearly and precisely is fundamental to the accounting policy role.

- Strong negotiation, research, analytical, organization and drafting skills are also necessary. The successful candidate will have the ability to multi-task while working on long-term projects. The candidate should be a fast thinker/quick learner and possess the ability to work effectively under pressure in a rapidly changing environment in order to meet deadlines. She or he will also need to be able to work autonomously as an effective member of a dynamic team.

- Candidate should be proficient in Word and Excel. Some knowledge of PowerPoint is useful, but not required.
