OVERVIEW:


 


Handicares Engineering and R&D teams invent, develop, and support medical innovations and technologies that can change the beliefs of what is feasible in patient-handling, mobility, and accessibility. We prototype new technology in-house and in partnerships; we bring technology to life through early demonstrations; we develop new technology through lab work, field proof-of-concepts, and vendor partnerships; we also support all Manufacturing Engineering activities in our world class manufacturing plant.


 


The primary purpose and function of the position is to provide Handicares Engineering and Product Design Team with support of the sustaining engineering process, innovative product design, reliability testing/accreditation, current and future product verification testing, and management of controlled documentation in a Master Document Control System.


 


 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Confers with engineering, operations, quality, suppliers, sales, and customers to resolve product issues, and prepares design modifications as required.

  • Prepares product or system layouts, detailed drawings, schematics, and Bills of Material.

  • Develops test programs, writes test procedures, analyzes data, and prepares test reports.

  • Coordinates the purchasing of Prototypes, raw materials, and products to assist in sustaining engineering activities.

  • Assists and coordinates manufacturing or building of prototypes.

  • Designs and develops product components, subassemblies, and assemblies.

  • Write and interpret proper design documentation as required by the product development process.

  • Supports the Engineering Change Request (ECR) and Engineering Change Notice (ECN) processes.

  • Supports Change Management Processes, including but not limited to: Document Change Orders (DCO), Corrective Action/Preventive Action (CAPA), Non-Conforming Material (NCR).

LANGUAGE SKILLS:



  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedural manuals, or government regulations. Ability to draft reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from group of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.



EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & TRAINING:



  • Bachelors degree in Engineering / Technology related field, or 5+ years equivalent work experience

  • Experience working in quality systems, ISO, and FDA quality-controlled environments

  • Experience in the design, development, and testing of medical devices

  • Experience in interpretation and implementation of standards and market requirements



CERTIFICATES, LICENSES OR REGISTRATIONS:



  • SolidWorks Associate Certification desired (not required)



COMPUTER SKILLS:



  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook required.

  • Median to advanced proficiency in SolidWorks or similar CAD/AutoCAD Design software required.

  • Intermediate proficiency in Adobe Illustrator desired (not required)



PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  



  • Employee may occasionally stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch during their work.

  • Employee must be able to regularly sit, use hand to finger, hand, feel, and reach with hands and arms.

  • Employee must be able to occasionally lift, push, pull, and or move up to 50 lbs.

  • Employee may occasionally work with test equipment, hoists, testing weights, and apparatus for testing.



WORK ENVIRONMENT:



  • This position works in an environment with moderate noise levels.



TRAVEL:



  • This position may travel up to 20% of the time (including international travel).
