UW Medicine Supply Chain Management's objective is to ensure our patient care experience is enhanced by delivering a robust foundation of services, operational and technical support, and the sharing of comprehensive, relevant, and highly specialized supply chain management expertise. 

UW Medicine Supply Chain Management has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time, day shift (7am to 3:30pm), SUPPLY CHAIN TECHNICIAN 2. The Supply Chain Technician 2 - Receiving & Courier is a UW Medicine Supply Chain position based at Harborview Medical Center, but will cover duties at University of Washington Medical Center as well. The primary focus of this position is customer service, and the purpose of the position is to receive, warehouse, courier, and deliver general, medical, and surgical supplies throughout various healthcare settings, utilizing effective receiving, warehousing, and courier procedures.

This position reports to the System Receiving and Courier Supervisor/Manager with additional oversight from the local Assistant Director/Site Lead. This position is part of the Supply Chain Technician class series.

Supply Chain Technician 2 duties include: receive, warehouse, courier, put away, requisition, pick, distribute, and/or deliver general, medical, and surgical supplies and equipment throughout various healthcare settings.  Although use of material handling and transportation equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, hand dollies, vans, and cargo trucks is typical for this work, driving a truck that requires a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is not required. Perform advanced supply chain duties such as receiving purchase orders or transporting supplies in vans and cargo trucks.

Under general supervision, receive, warehouse, courier, and deliver general, medical, and surgical supplies and equipment throughout various healthcare settings.  Perform advanced supply chain duties such as receiving purchase orders or transporting supplies in vans and cargo trucks.

Position responsibilities:
  • Deliver supplies and packages to various nursing units, clinics, and other locations utilizing appropriate signature technologies.
  • Answer phone calls and emails and respond to customer service requests in a timely manner.
  • Perform issues and credits in the Materials Management Information System (MMIS), ensuring the cost of the items are allocated appropriately.
  • Assist with cycle counts and physical inventories.
  • Utilize various computer technologies such as handhelds, package scanners, and software programs.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
  • Assist with training Supply Chain staff.
  • May lead project work.
  • Receive purchase orders in the MMIS.
  • Ship outbound packages utilizing appropriate shipping methodologies.
  • Verify incoming and outbound shipments for accuracy.
  • Resolve order discrepancies while adhering to department policy and procedure.
  • Courier fixtures, furniture, equipment, mail, packages and supplies in vans and cargo trucks to the correct destination, using appropriate signature technologies.
  • Check various supply locations for product expiration dates and removal according to policy.
  • Assist with special projects.
  • Perform related duties as required.

    REQUIREMENTS: 

    High school graduation or equivalent AND six months of supply chain experience.   

    DESIRED:

  • Proficiency in utilizing the MMIS.
  • Knowledge of general office equipment such a fax machines, copy machines, and printers.
  • Ability to work in a busy, high-pressure environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders to include coworkers, management, and clinical partners.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in English, both written and verbal, including active listening.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in customer service and problem-solving.   

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: 
  • Typing, use of computers, computer software, and the ability to learn software applications necessary in the performance of typical work.
  • Lifting up to 50 pounds without assistance, climbing stairs, kneeling, reaching (overhead/extension), sitting, stooping (bend at waist), and twisting (knees/waist/neck).
  • Frequently carrying items, crouching, operating a keyboard, pushing/pulling, and hand/eye coordination.
  • Continuously grasping/handling, lifting, standing, and walking.
  • Driving vans and cargo trucks that do not require a CDL; requiring valid driver's license.
