Job Description:

Be part of a growing organization within L3Harris’ Supplier Quality Engineering organization. Our organization is increasing its control over special process suppliers implementing rigorous management of supplier certifications. 

This position is responsible for management of the special process vendors related to metallurgy sciences and/or subcontractors of materials, products or services used in development or manufacturing. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Evaluate potential new special process suppliers for technical process capability and quality management system strength and maturity.  
  • Perform technical audits of supplier special processes to determine compliance to specification requirements and manage supplier certifications on behalf of L3Harris.
  • Collaborate with supplier quality engineering to drive RCCA investigations on Special Process related defects.
  • Mentor Supplier quality engineers in the details of special process.
  • Administer the approved special process supplier list.
  • Develop Special Process suppliers to drive zero defect mindset, risk mitigation and adequate process controls.
  • Represent L3Harris at Nadcap events and contribute to the Nadcap task groups.
  • Work with suppliers to ensure supplier compliance to contractual requirements through implementation of robust processes and procedures.
  • Ensure that performance and quality products conform to established company and regulatory standards.
  • Review, analyze and report on quality discrepancies related to assembly, process, mechanical, electrical, and electro-mechanical systems. 
  • Analyze supplier performance and develop improvement plans for identified problem areas.
  • Provide training for quality methodologies to support supplier partnerships.
  • Support commodity strategies and sourcing initiatives. 


    • Bachelor's Degree in: Industrial, Mechanical, Metallurgical Engineering with a minimum of 6 years' experience in supporting design, development, manufacturing and/or supplier quality activities as it relates to special processes OR Master's Degree in: Industrial, Mechanical, Metallurgical Engineering with a minimum of 4 years' experience in supporting design, development, manufacturing and/or supplier quality activities as it relates to special processes
    • Experience with Nadcap audit process and requirements.
    • Experience with Coatings, Heat Treatment, Material Testing, NDT, Metal Joining, and Non-Conventional Machining Processes.

      Preferred Additional Skills:

      • Position requires travel up to 75% percent.
      • Lean/Six Sigma training (Preference is certified green/black belt).
      • SPC, Predictive Quality methodologies, Potential Failure Mode and Effects Analysis, and problem-solving methodologies.
      • Experience implementing Advanced Product Quality Planning tools.
      • Ability to demonstrate strong root cause corrective action process knowledge.
      • AS 9100/ISO 9001 quality system and process audit experience.
      • Supplier Development and Engagement.
      • Strong interactive skills, written and verbal communication skills.
      • Strong ability to focus, prioritize, and multi-task successfully to drive tasks to closure to support customer commitments and business objectives.
      • Strong understanding of Windows environment including standard Microsoft Office tools.
      • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
