Supplier Development Engineer

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and qualify suppliers based on selection criteria. Audit and perform technical capability assessments at supplier sites as required during program design changes / development.
    • Support new supplier sourcing and selection
    • Support validation of new tools by developing and executing qualification plans with engineering and manufacturing teams.
      • Establish, track, and trend key supplier performance metrics. Use data analytics to make recommendations on actions.
      • Identify, quantify, prioritize, and drive supplier improvement projects including supplier recommended design changes to internal engineering teams.
      • Review, approve, release & execute engineering change orders at supplier sites
      • Drive Cepheid requirements at supplier, while representing supplier capabilities within Cepheid
      • Review, drive corrective actions, and approve supplier issues (Non-conforming material, corrective action requests, etc.).
      • Deploy & Improve Metrology capabilities at the Supplier site
      • Responsible for training suppliers on Cepheid protocols & knowledge transfer


        Minimum Requirements:

        • Requires a minimum of 2-3 years related experience with an Engineering Bachelor of Science degree preferably Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a technical competency in this area based on related experience.
        • Demonstrated technical and analytical ability with high degree of professional acumen.
        • Strong / Concise verbal and written communication skills.
        • Experienced and comfortable with executive level presentations (.ppt / €œelevator pitches€).
        • Familiar with ISO and GMPMD requirements.
        • Demonstrated experience working directly with internal functional organizations and suppliers on a regular basis.
        • Demonstrated experience with high volume manufacturing processes €“ preferably Injection molding. Experience with pFMEAs and Control plans, and technical quality assessment
        • Understanding of processing limitations and design characteristics
        • Must be willing and able to travel to supplier locations €“ primarily regionally located
        • Ability to read 2D drawings with GD&T and work with CAD (preferably Solid works)

          Preferred Qualifications (optional):

          • Master€™s degree (business or technical)
          • Demonstrated experience in Injection molding & Tooling development
          • Understanding of processing limitations and design characteristics of plastic parts
          • Demonstrated experience with high volume manufacturing processes - injection molding
          • Familiar with 6 step studies / DOE / Process window development
          • Demonstrated experience with Injection molding process and controls
          • Proficiency in MS Excel, MS Power Point, Agile, and SAP
          • Must be a self-starter and be able to operate independent of day to day supervision
          • Self-starter with the ability to adapt, critical thinking skills, and problem solve under pressure

            Physical requirements/abilities:

            • Ability to work at Supplier sites and office environment.
              • Some travel domestically and internationally is required (25%)
