Overview and Responsibilities

Purpose of Position and Scope of Responsibility:

 

Supervises BMH Crittenden respiratory therapy services and staff using effective financial and operational management techniques to assure quality and timely administration of respiratory therapy treatment modalities and necessary tests for patient diagnosis.  Under the direct supervision of the Radiology Manager, responsible for 24 hours/day;  7 days/week and on site 8 hours/day, 5 days/week. Incumbents are subject to overtime and callback as required by BMH Crittenden.

 

Principal Accountabilities/Responsibilities:

 

E    1    Assures efficient respiratory therapy services management by planning and implementing efficient resource management including general, financial, operations, personnel, and quality management to meet the financial goals of the department.

 

E    2    Plans and organizes overall patient and unit activity to ensure efficient operations and continuity of  patient care.

 

E    3    Delivers appropriate safe cost effective patient care in a timely manner in accordance with the care plan to achieve positive patient outcomes.

 

E    4   Evaluates the effectiveness of the patients care plan and appropriateness and safety of the hospital environment on an on-going basis using established standards criteria and guidelines to assure optimal patient outcomes.

 

E    5    Provides education to patients, families, staff, students, and physicians using appropriate education training methods and materials to ensure safety, continuity of care and advancement of knowledge and skills.   (Incumbents must acquire and maintain skills and knowledge to satisfy the requirements of applicable regulatory agencies and level of responsibilities.)

 

E    6    Performs related accountabilities/responsibilities as required or directed.

Qualifications

Knowledge/Education

 

 

 

Experience

 

 

 

Licensure, Registration, Certification

Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapist Program OR hold RRT as defined by the NBRC.

 

One year experience in management of ventilator/trach patients best obtained in the critical care area.

 

Current licensure as RRT; 

Current  certification in  Basic Cardiac Life Support

Skill and proficiency in the concepts, principles and techniques of the field of Respiratory Care.
