General Description

This position is responsible for developing relationships and outreaching to employers while supporting the academic and workplace success of all local health professions apprentices participating in the HealthWorks grant.

Characteristics, Duties, and Responsibilities

Plans, markets and conducts participant/employer orientation sessions to inform potential apprentices about the HealthWorks Grant and available career pathways and related technical instruction programs through apprenticeship.
Develops and monitors all career exploration activities related to health professions program selection.
Maintains and updates all program-related files and documentation related to outreach, placement, training, on-the-job training (OJT), program completion and wage increases
Establishes and maintains an organized and confidential management system.
Develops and fosters ongoing relationships with potential employers.
Builds and maintains positive and proactive relationships with key College and community stakeholders.
Assists in research related to current job demand and interpret job descriptions to determine suitability.
Confers and obtains student and employer feedback regarding students apprenticeship experiences
Interacts and collaborates with community-based partners regarding employment initiatives
Collaborates with the Health Works Grant management staff, Dean of Allied Sciences and Plainfield Campus, Business Liaisons and Office of Grants Administration staff to complete all program-related responsibilities and reporting as outlined in the HealthWorks grant.
Participates in staff meetings, in-service trainings, staff development meetings and meetings as needed with community partners
Interacts with and acts as a liaison to other areas within the College and outside agencies as needed to support students goals towards employment
Assists in managing and implementation of related technical instruction activities and On-the-Job (OJT) activities under the apprenticeship programs.
Prepares and tracks all career-based activities and outcomes
Performs additional tasks or duties as assigned by the Dean of Allied Sciences and Plainfield Campus, HealthWorks Business Liaisons, the Office of Grants Administration or other management and approved by the Executive Director Continuing Education and Workforce Development

Education Requirements

Bachelors degree required in Human Services, Business Management, Human Resources, specific Health Profession or related field.


Minimum of 2-3 years of experience working in advising/counseling, career placement, apprenticeship or human resources. Previous experience in the job placement field and working knowledge/ability to learn Salesforce.com and other CRMs required.

Competencies and Skills Required

Demonstrates understanding of the community college mission.
Working knowledge of coordinating services with multiple agencies, business, and educational partners.
Excellent written, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills required.
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite.
Exhibits strong skills in leadership, managing people, building relationships and possess a creative and innovative approach to problem solving.
Demonstrates the ability to multi-task and work independently with limited supervision.
Attention to detail required.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This positions duties are normally performed in a typical interior/residence work environment, based on the activity scheduled.

Some physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

No or very limited exposure to physical risk.

Local travel required.

Valid drivers license required

Terms of Employment

Full Time, grant funded position. NJ Health Works Apprenticeship Program.
Flexible schedule to meet department needs. Some evening, weekends, and extended hours will be required. Ability and willingness to travel on short notice to all on and off- campus sites as needed by the college. Mandatory overtime is required throughout the year, especially at peak times. Employee must establish primary residency in New Jersey within one year of appointment unless an exemption applies.

Grant Position:
Position will be terminated upon expiration of grant funding.
