The diabetes device industry is unique in that technologies available to monitor and manage diabetes are starting to converge with consumer electronics technology. As such, the decision dynamics are evolving: patients have a stronger voice in therapy choice, care is transitioning away from specialists, and the role of artificial intelligence is elevating care. Medtronic Diabetes is transforming its business to adapt to this change and create meaningful differentiation to drive customer preference and revenue growth.

The **Strategic Planning Director** will serve as the strategic leader for the Diabetes Amercias region, facilitating the development and communication plans for the strategic direction of the region. The Director will partner across the business and region to lead the Americas strategic plan, ensuring the cross functional alignment of strategies and that these strategies are included in AOP and departmental objectives. The role will lead projects in diverse areas of the business driving rigorous, fact based strategic decisions within the Diabetes Americas Region. Success in the role will rely heavily on the ability to manage cross-functional teams, prioritize projects, synthesize complex data and information into succinct findings, derive strategic insights, and communicate findings and perspectives to all levels of the organization, including senior and executive management. This leader will report to the Vice President of Commercial Strategy and Execution, and will manage a team of business strategy resources.

The Director must be detail-oriented and self-motivated, with excellent analytic, facilitation, and communication skills (both oral and written). The Director will work collaboratively with team members across Diabetes, with an emphasis on coordination of business unit and regional activities, to manage the development of processes, tools and outputs that support strategic decision making and execution. The Director will also act as an independent voice to the Vice President of Commercial Strategy and Execution and assist in facilitating effective decision making, coordinate the execution of strategic initiatives and manage the weekly and quarterly Americas staff meeting agendas, actions, minutes, and goals in accordance with the strategic plan and annual operating plans. The Director will function as a Chief of Staff to the Vice President Americas and will be responsible for supporting presentations to the employee base, Diabetes SLT, EXCOM, and other internal and external partners as needed.

**A Day in the Life**

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

+ Develops long-range objectives and strategic plans for corporation or major division by identifying internal and external strategic issues that could affect growth and profitability.

+ Scans environment for business opportunities, maintains surveillance over market, and may perform financial analysis of acquisition candidates.

+ Develops and monitors profitability, productivity, and growth targets.

+ May prepare acquisition proposals, recommend financial and nonfinancial strategic objectives and alternatives, and implement and maintain strategic and operational plans.

+ Plans and coordinates business reviews, resource allocations, organization structures, and financial analysis.

+ Lead the strategic plan process for the Americas Region, working in concert with the Americas Senior Leadership team. Heavy focus on content development for the US commercial strategy

+ Collaborate with leaders to understand and identify opportunities followed by collaboration to plan and execute prioritized initiatives

+ Partner with Finance on strategic/tactical elements of AOP development and ongoing performance to the AOP throughout the year

+ Lead process to establish Americas Gs Os

+ Coordinate development of all region QBRs

+ Manage the weekly and quarterly Americas staff meeting/off-site agendas, actions, minutes, and goals in accordance with the strategic plan and annual operating plan

+ Monitor and report on ongoing execution of Strategic Plan across the Americas

+ Manage and lead team to prioritize and execute Americas region business strategy initiatives

+ Serve as key Americas liaison in business strategy meetings

+ Serve as Chief of Staff to the Americas VP

+ Partner with finance to manage the Americas CapEx process

+ Drive initiatives that come out of the Americas EVOLVE program

+ Establish and maintain a high level of awareness and knowledge of products, technologies and commercial models relevant to the Diabetes business and Americas region

+ Develop and maintain strong relationships and alliances across Medtronic and the Diabetes business

**Must Have: Minimum Requirements**

+ Bachelors degree required

+ Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience with 7+ years of managerial experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experiencein Marketing, Strategy, Finance, Commercialization or Operationswith 7+ years of managerial experience

**Nice to Have**


+ 10+ years experience in Medical Device/Biotech/Pharma industries

+ Experience in business planning and project management

+ Excellent executive communication skills (written and oral)

+ Strong interpersonal and people management skills

+ Strong analytical and project management skills

+ Advanced results orientation and execution skills

+ People management exeprience

+ Demonstrated competence in identifying and understanding healthcare and industry trends

+ Ability to partner with and influence stakeholders across the matrix

+ Strong strategic thinking skills
