Role Overview
This position is for a Staff Hardware Systems Engineer on the Advanced Systems team in the Military Avionics and Helicopters (MA&H) Advanced organization. The Advanced Systems team is a research and development group responsible for supporting the maturation of key emerging technologies and differentiators required to position Collins Aerospace for both current and future growth opportunities; supporting our military and their partners. This includes, but is not limited to, advancements in next generation Human Machine Interface (HMI), helmet mounted displays, flight management systems, communications management and vehicle control, personal electronic devices, as well as, model based engineering processes, tools, techniques, formal methods analysis, cyber security and Open Systems development. The ideal candidate has cross-discipline expertise in Systems and Hardware engineering. The candidate may serve as technical leader, or Agile Product Owner, for development and integration activities for highly strategic development project teams. The candidate may also support pursuit and technical proposal activities.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to technology roadmaps in participation with internal and external stakeholders
  • Execute technical investigations and evaluations
  • Support early stage design activities
  • Generate designs and requirements for next generation flight decks and operator stations
  • Demonstrate feature prototypes to internal and external customers
  • Work across a multi-disciplinary & matrixed team to drive technology and solutions forward
  • Work as a unifier across hardware and systems engineering to help architect future solution


Qualifications:

  • This position requires a Bachelors degree in the appropriate discipline (STEM degree highly preferred) and 7 years of relevant experience or an Advanced degree in the appropriate discipline and 5 years of relevant experience. In the absence of a degree, 11 years of relevant experience is required.
  • Experience with military and/or commercial avionics systems is required
  • Experience with software system design
  • Experience with new or novel execution and implementation techniques and processes
  • Agile development experience
  • Experience with advanced networking
  • Experience with adoption and maturation of new technologies supporting a Digital Backbone
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment, excellent interpersonal skills and proactive problem-solving abilities.
  • Must be a self-starter, be able to multi-task, and take advantage of opportunities and events to achieve results
  • Maintain and active interest in study, learning, and continuous self-development
  • Experience with design, requirements capture, development, and integration of complex avionics hardware/software systems
  • Experience with avionics development processes such as (ARP4754, ARP4761, DO-254, DO-178)
  • Experience with systems/software modeling languages (SysML, UML, AADL, or equivalent)
  • Experience with visual modeling and design tools (Enterprise Architect or equivalent)
