Job Title: Staff R&D Scientist

Location: Greenville, SC

Division: Pharma Services Group (PSG)

How will you make an impact?

Use talent, knowledge, and expertise to identify potential issues. Investigate and solve problems on a diverse scope of projects. May be involved in lab synthetic bench work for process evaluation and improvement, cGMP kilo-scale production, technical and trouble-shooting support for scale-up production of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API). Works on technical/scientific project activities to execute strategies and technical solutions that meet client needs and expectations. Participates in technical discussions with clients. Engages in creation of robust processes for production, and/or registration batches, including technology transfer of projects to and from clients.

What will you do?

  • Evaluate technical package, develop experimental plan to identify and define critical process parameters.
  • Collect reliable process data through designed laboratory experiments with accurate, detailed documentation.
  • Summarize and interpret process data to draw logical conclusions. Proficient analytical knowledge for compound identification and structure elucidation is required including at least NMR, IR, HPLC, GC, and MS.
  • Develops new processes that meet or exceed the expectations from clients and provide innovation as necessary.
  • Prepare detailed process development report to support justification of process parameter definition.
  • Draft, review Operating Instructions and investigation documentation.
  • Execute Operating Instructions for laboratory scale production under SOP/cGMP guidelines.
  • Provide timely technical support for scale-up production and inter-departmental needs.
  • Lead projects with minimal supervision; may lead projects, including but not limited to managing process development timelines and deliverables, coordinating process development activities.
  • Fit in a multidisciplinary team with flexibility to carry out fast-turnaround projects.

    How will you get here?


  • PhD.- Organic Chemistry – required.


    2-5 years of scientific experience in a related field preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Good knowledge of scientific methodology and cGMP as related to the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Good reasoning, trouble-shooting skills and strong logical thinking ability.
  • Effective written, interpersonal, and presentation skills, including managing technical discussions with internal and external clients.
