Where the Chemistry Happens

 

The Whitestone (Spartanburg), SC, facility manufactures ingredient chemicals that go into various products including industrial surfactants and some cosmetic ingredients.  Alkoxylation is the major chemistry practiced at this site. Analytical instruments like viscometers, PH meters, gas chromatographs, titrators and Near Infra-Red (NIR) instruments are used for Quality Control (QC) and Analytical testing of the final and in-process materials.  Software like SAP and a local Access-based database are used to manage the data.  The QC lab services the operations area to help manufacture over 300 different products.  The QC lab has a high-volume, fast-paced environment, and provides rapid analysis to operations.


In this role, for the Whitestone site, you will -

  • Support the sites safety goals and provide active participation in the QC teams safety-related initiatives
  • Provide technical support necessary to troubleshoot day-to-day process/product issues, support maintenance of the QC database, customer requests and complaints, site QC analytical issues and business requests related to product/customer support
  • Provide support for new product introductions (NPIs) and product transfers to help with site asset effectiveness and diversity of product portfolio
  • Provide principal support for the site's NIR program.  You will be expected to take a co-leadership role in maintenance, operation, calibration and continual improvement of the site's NIR program.
  • Continue to interface with NIR peer network for best practice sharing.

Formula for Success

 

  • Leveraging your educational background in Chemistry (or a related discipline) and some experience in manufacturing support (particularly hands-on expertise in using various available instruments), you will be relied on to support sites safety, quality and operational initiatives and help train new QC lab technicians, as needed.
  • Your interpersonal skills and strong customer focus will be critical to success as you interact and engage with key internal and external stakeholders including the operations manager, supervisors, engineers, QC technicians, operators, customers and members of the business team as you provide research and manufacturing support for daily operations and new product development.
  • Your excellent verbal and written communication skills will be essential as you concisely report conclusions in both oral and written form. 
  • Utilizing your understanding of statistical data evaluations, you will analyze experimental data using statistical tools (e.g. JMP).
  • Successfully engaging within the organization, you will engage with QC lab technicians to train and furnish best practices in the use of lab instrumentation.
  • Your ability to work effectively, both independently and within a diverse team, will be essential to help the site at Whitestone achieve success in customer satisfaction through practices of safe behaviors and excellent support for laboratory and operational needs.
