Job Summary: Performs the role of clinical infrastructure and technology engineer. Part of high functioning team who research, design, develop, and test clinical information systems including databases, interfaces, messaging, and operational aspects of systems. Coordinates implementation of system interfaces and implements real-time interface processing including all parties required for a successful roll-out. Ensures HIPAA and other regulatory compliance. Works as a senior member of a multidisciplinary team to provide timely and accurate clinical information at the point of care, ensuring the best technical solution is implemented. Ensures appropriate and safe application of clinical technologies through application of standard engineering techniques and software management procedures. Ensures continuous real-time operation of clinical information systems (24X7) and support. Interfaces with system and support vendors as needed. Seeks advice/guidance from higher-level staff on more complex systems and issues. Job Responsibilities: 1. Monitor clinical technology trends and evaluate emerging technology trends. Report findings and recommend strategy for management of clinical technology and integration of related technology within hospital system. 2. Leads the solution design and deployment of clinical technology in existing and new care delivery environments in conjunction with clinical and technology partners. 3. Provides SME consultation for system assessment, design, implementation, and support strategy for clinical technology, IT networks, and integrations within EIS as part of a multi-disciplinary team. 4. Mentors team members in role as liaison with system and support vendors, and OEM resellers as required to ensure data integrity, performance, and availability of clinical information systems. 5. Ensures optimal performance of the Clinical Software Suite of products to minimize outages. Provides 7x24 support for applications on a rotation basis. 6. Mentors other members of the Team on all technical aspects, including but not limited to: standards, workflows, messaging concepts, clinical systems, alerting/alarming, software platform internals, debugging strategies, and performance tuning. 7. Design and document test plans, engineer and perform software and firmware upgrades in a controlled environment, to ensure upgrade will have minimal disruption to clinical and operational workflows. 8. Coordinates clinical information system development activities with key EIS Informatics and Technology engineering groups, including: Coordination with systems integration team to implement, test, and maintain system interfaces Coordination with EIS Informatics and Technology groups to analyze business and interface requirements Coordination with network engineers and UNIX systems administrators to implement and maintain clinical information system platforms 9. Researches business and clinical needs and develops procedures to extract clinical information system data for decision support, quality management, resource management, regulatory, and research purposes. 10. Designs processes and programs for incident investigations and equipment performance analysis. 11. Provide SME consultation for Clinical Systems and Technology program liaison to the EIS and Clinical teams; in particular to healthcare technology committees and workgroups; supports development of strategies to incorporate industry best practices into health system. 12. Leads team efforts in special projects as assigned by management. On-Call: 7x24 on call on a rotational basis, during off-hours and weekendsEducational requirements and/or preferences: BS in Computer Science or Biomedical/Clinical Engineering. MS in Biomedical/Clinical Engineering preferred 10+ years experience developing and managing clinical information systems 5+ years experience in Dev/Ops role to implement and support complex systems interfaces Advanced understanding of the medical and physiologic aspects of the data collected and analyzed Proven knowledge and experience with integrated device systems (IDS) Strong interpersonal skills; able to teach, mentor, and lead a diverse team Creative and organized with a proven ability to prioritize workload, meet deadlines, and utilitize time effectively Expertise with administration and configuration of various application platforms Expert knowledge of software systems and application architectures such as client-server and n-tier and typical application-system dependences and APIs Demonstrated expertise with TCP/IP, FTP, Secure FTP, SSH, SMTP, HTTP, DNS, WINS, Active Directory, and related network protocols and services Ability to quickly adapt to new applications, managing the interaction between the application and the OS to ensure optimal performance Expert troubleshooting skills in a multi-platform environment; meticulous with strong attention to detail Executes all job responsibilities and assignments promptly, reliably, honestly, and ethically Cedars-Sinai is an EEO employer.
