Raytheons Highway Transportation Solutions group is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer in the greater Toronto area to support a dedicated team of engineers & technicians who are engaged in development and maintenance of Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) systems. This position requires the candidate to possess technical skills that will be applied against engineering and maintenance challenges on a regular basis. These technical challenges can be varied and often-difficult problems requiring a wide breadth in technical scope under time sensitive conditions. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundational knowledge of electronics to develop new product and to support field support / systems. Participate in multiple projects to plan, test and deliver the ETC equipment, Dedicated Short Range Communication (DSRC) RF systems, hardware and software. Support project activities related to new installations, maintenance and upgrades of ETC systems hardware and software applications.

Under the general direction of the engineering manager, the candidate may lead projects and execute assigned platform / systems installation assignments that involve detailed analysis and planning. Expected to be able to solve field problems with installation / maintenance / upgrade in resourceful and effective ways. Participate in development projects that typically impact several major product lines or customers. Participate in contributing or contributes to new and modified equipment and installation specifications and processes for installation of platforms / systems / applications.
The candidate will be working at Raytheons Woodbridge Ontario facility and at other sites in Canada and abroad; particularly in USA; in the office/lab and field.
Responsibilities

To perform on-site installation and commissioning of ETC systems as a member of an integrated team.
To guide and train technicians on installation, commissioning, fault diagnostic, troubleshooting, alignment and replacement of devices and hardware on-site.
To perform on-site fault-diagnostic, troubleshooting, repairing, testing and alignment of a variety of ETC equipment for various projects.
To work with other engineers on design and testing the new design / under-development device and electronics / electrical and RF DSRC systems.
Produce documentation and procedures related to products.
Frequent interaction with internal and external contacts.

Required Skills

A degree in Electronic/Electrical Engineering or a minimum of 7 years of equivalent combination of experience, training and education.
Must have a minimum of 5 years of related experience
Knowledge and experience of the installation, commissioning and maintenance of the highway ETC is an asset.
Extensive RF field experience designing, setting up and tuning controlled communication zones. Knowledgeable about antenna design/characteristics to devisehow to optimize antenna location and alignment to achieve desired RF radiation pattern over the area of interest.
Functional experience using Windows, QNX/LINUX/UNIX Operating Systems, MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Visio and Eagle PCB Design.
Proven engineering design experience in electrical (analog, digital, RF) applications.
Experience designing with and using microcontrollers (microchip PIC), Arduino, FPGAs.
Develop new, improve existing, and evaluate diagnostic and repair methods and test procedures suitable for a wide range of legacy and new electronic products.

Must be creative, self-motivated, and analytical with a zest to learn new things and enjoy challenges within a team-focused environment and able to work under pressure.
Very good communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills are essential.

Able to work at heights over 6 meters (20 feet) above live highway traffic and to operate aerial lifts.

While on field assignments may be required to work both indoors and outdoors, on day and night shift during weekdays and weekends in all weather conditions (i.e. hot, cold, raining, snowing, etc.)

Must be available for prearranged support outside normal business hours and unscheduled call-in as required.

Canadian Citizenship is required (dual Canadian-USA citizenship is an asset); with ability to travel and eligible to work in United States. Travel assignment up to 4-6 weeks durations.

Valid Class G drivers license.

Desired Skills

Good foundational knowledge and hands-on experience in networking, electronics (analog, digital, instrumentation), RF engineering, radar basic concepts, RF signal processing, hardware/software Integration & test process and procedures, field-testing.
Dedicated Short Range Communication (DSRC) design and operational experience specifically in 900MHz and 5.9GHz bands.
Knowledge of advanced technical concepts and design experience of sub-systems and application to radar systems.

Software development experience in C#, C++, XML, GUI development, client side applications, and .NET including threading, and assembly programming is an asset.

Experience in writing Python scripts to automate and control test equipment.

Required Education

University bachelor engineering degree a related field or the equivalent in training and experience
