Job Description:

Looking for a self-motivated, high energy, mid-level Systems Administrator to provide cutting edge services. The successful candidate will serve as a Systems Administrator supporting mainframe computing environments. Support services will include, but not be limited to IBM and VAX. The individual will work in a secure environment and generate system status reports, CONOPS, security and procedural documentation. Professional customer interaction is a must.

Essential Functions:

  • As a member of the CSO team, the successful candidate will plan, document, coordinate, and perform day-to-day CSO operations and systems administration procedures, including:

  • Make on-line and off-line configuration changes in support of operations, test or exercises.
  • Support system users, administrators, and maintainers.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot and report system problems.
  • Operate the Space Defense Operations Center (SPADOC).
  • Identify, report, coordinate, and document system abnormalities for IBM mainframe, servers, clients and peripheral devices.
  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled Initial Program loads (IPLs) and system failovers.
  • Coordinate with system leads, SMEs, analysts, maintenance personnel and System Center/Job Control on repair actions/status.
  • Perform scheduled recovery and backup system tasks.
  • Create output products and disseminate, as requested.
  • Initialize Exercise and Training (EAT) on Live/Backup system, as requested by customer.
  • Create Mission/Scenario media. Recycle Address Spaces (A/S) as requested.
  • Respond to failures and anomalies.
  • Ensure facility security by utilizing established entry/access and emergency procedures.
  • Ability to work non-standard shifts is a requirement (shift work, Days, Swings, Mids).
  • May be asked to support other areas/work centers on NISSC II contract and work with multiple systems.
  • Monitors and operates electronic digital computers to process business, scientific, engineering, or other data according to operating instructions.
  • Normally required to set control switches; ensure that correct peripheral equipment is utilized and move switches to clear system and operate the equipment; selects and loads input and output units with materials such as tapes and printout forms.
  • Observes equipment and control panels for operator messages or error indicators.
  • Sets up and runs diagnostic test and reacts appropriately to the messages and reports errors or machine malfunctions as required.
  • May perform clerical work incidental to machine operations such as labeling tape containers, maintaining production records, replenishing specified stock items, and distributing output materials.
  • Normally required to operate peripheral equipment to perform such operations as tape-to-printer.
  • Assist in training of apprentice personnel.
  • Perform librarian responsibilities and follow proper handling procedures
  • Applicant will be trained and must pass initial and recurring evaluations to maintain employment.
  • TS security clearance with SCI (DCID 6/4) eligibility
  • Ability to perform computer operations.
  • Proven ability to operate, learn or understand IBM mainframe systems and associated Unix, Windows and/or other proprietary peripherals.
  • Basic understanding of an enterprise network architecture and internetworking protocols and technology.
  • Perform monitoring and management of mainframes, networks and workgroup servers.
  • Independently determines and develops approach to solutions with established guidance.
  • Work is reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience.
    • Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience.
    • DoD 8570.01-M IAT Level 1 certification. Must be obtained within three (3) months of hire date. Initial certification expenses will not be covered by the NISSC II program.
    • Active Top-Secret DOD security clearance.

      Preferred Additional Skills:

      • DoD 8570.01-M IAT Level 2 or 3 certification.
      • Experience implementing patches, scanning, remediating findings, auditing.
      • Previous experience supporting DoD/government customers.
      • Demonstrated ability to work and grow in a dynamic, fast paced, team-oriented environment.
      • Experience with IBM mainframe and peripherals, VAX, media library management, computer monitoring, reporting of system status, and technical communication skills.
      • VMS, LINUX, and MVS tools experience/knowledge desired.
      • Active TS/SCI DOD security clearance is preferred.
      • Ability to travel up to 10%.
