Job summary
Come join the Amazon Web Services EC2 Core Platform development team responsible for a foundational components of the AWS EC2 service. This team owns services that manage core zone mapping functions, Image APIs, time, DHCP, and DNS.

In addition to meeting the technical qualifications, we are looking for an engineer that is creative, responsible, and eager to dig deep into technologies. We are looking for a problem solver who wants to understand business challenges, operational issues, software architecture, and how the three connect. We are looking for someone that is excited to learn from others while also bringing independent ideas and perspectives. About the team
This team runs several services including the customer facing APIs used to manage Amazon Machine Images (AMIs), ntpd/DNS/DHCP services, and region mapping APIs leveraged by other EC2 services to support of the regional aspect of AWS. Currently we are all working remotely, but we like to periodically meet in the office to share a lunch and do team meetings. We are growing and hope you consider joining our team!

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4+ years of professional software development experience
  • 3+ years of programming experience with at least one software programming language
  • 2+ years of experience contributing to the system design or architecture (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems
  • Experience as a mentor, tech lead OR leading an engineering team

* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, or similar technical field.
* Strong Computer Science fundamentals in data structures, algorithm design, and problem solving.
* Experience working with at least one modern programming language such as Java, C, C++, C#, or Rust.
* Experience as both an individual contributor, but also delivering through other engineers via high level scoping, project decomposition, mentoring, design and architecture reviews, code reviews, etc.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

* Experience developing in a Linux environment.
* Experience with distributed computing and enterprise-wide systems.
* Experience influencing software engineering best practices within your team.
* Experience mentoring junior software engineers.
* Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
