THE PROBLEM WE ARE SOLVING. Today customers often find shopping ideas and inspiration outside of Amazon, however once a customer discovers what they want, they often come to amazon to buy it. Personalization at Amazon is looking to close this customer experience gap by seamlessly connecting the dots from inspiration to purchase, in short, we are pursuing the future and promise of social commerce.

HOW WE ARE SOLVING THE PROBLEM. We help customers discover and curate ideas, interests and products based on recommendations from brands, creators, publishers and social media influencers that customers trust. We bring window shopping online with visually rich, photo and video-first experiences that make customers feel acknowledged, entertained and inspired. We focus on the joy of shopping by enabling customers to shop by interest, topic or recommendation source.

THE ROLE. You have a strategic focus, yet retain an appropriate level of hands-on management. You build, scale and shape the direction of this business. You have deep technical expertise, excellent leadership skills, and strong business judgment. You own both backend services and customer facing experiences. You partner with product management, senior leaders and technical managers to ensure program success. You stay abreast of relevant development and innovation occurring both inside and outside the company and use that knowledge to inspire big ideas. You trust your teams to innovate and deliver, verifying that they are achieving intended outcomes. You develop closed-loop mechanisms that enable you to quickly identify when projects are at risk and then act decisively to get them back on track. You define standards of excellence and drive your teams to adopt best practices.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in partnering with product and program management teams
  • 5+ years of people management experience, managing engineers
  • 10+ years of relevant engineering experience

  • Deep dive analytical skills and experience in dealing with large volume of data
  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior management to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
  • Experience in leading software development teams and developing talent
  • Experience influencing software engineering best practices within your team
  • Experience taking a leading role in building end-to-end software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers
  • Strong knowledge of software development best practices and methodologies

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in developing visually-rich mobile apps.
