Sr. Risk Specialist - Operational Risk Management - Business Continuity

Description/Summary

Capital One is seeking a Senior Risk Associate to join the Business Continuity Management (BCM) team within the Operational Risk Management (ORM) organization. The BCM team is focused on developing and executing oversight responsibilities within the second line-of-defense for Capital One.  The selected candidate will primarily work in a relationship management function supporting lines of business in overall coordination and management of Business Continuity (BC) requirements which help to prepare the enterprise for disruptive events to ensure the continuation of business and to minimize loss.  

The BCM Senior Associate role will leverage strong communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment.  This selected candidate will work closely with first line of business to understand their processes, identify risks, and provide solutions to help manage and minimize those risks.  This role will support the lines of business in documenting BC process plans, driving plan maintenance, reporting, and testing efforts.  The ideal candidate will be able to provide effective challenge as needed to help drive risk remediation efforts and will be able to produce reporting for leadership that shows risk status and mitigation progress. This role also involves facilitation in the BC training efforts to partner teams and first lines of business. Competencies include strong communication skills, integrative thinking and good organizational and influencing skills. 

Responsibilities

  • Understand risks and issues related to business continuity efforts
  • Work closely with lines of business and partner teams to identify risks and issues 
  • Support recovery planning efforts and enhancements to mitigate risk appetite within the lines of business
  • Provide effective challenge where business continuity considerations are lacking adequacy
  • Build productive relationships with business, Technology, and ORM teams to promote a strong operational resiliency and response posture
  • Analyze business processes to determine the impact a disaster might have on the Enterprise
  • Assist in developing and documenting program processes to support the objectives of the BCM team
  • Scrutinize business practices to assess impacts on the ability to restore and sustain operations in the event of a service disruption
  • Facilitate training as needed for first line and partner teams
  • Leverage project management skills to promote the delivery of key initiatives
  • Ability to interpret metric data to understand risk implications
  • Facilitate and participate in line of business risk meetings
  • Support ongoing program enhancement efforts based on industry standards and best practices related to risk management and business continuity that align with Capital Ones strategic risk direction
  • Participate in an on-call crisis management rotation
  • Attend professional meetings and participate in training and other educational offerings to keep abreast of new developments related to business continuity


Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, GED Certification, or military experience
  • At least 2 years of experience in Risk Management or Business Continuity Management
  • At least 2 years working in an Agile team
  • At least 1 year experience in customer facing role

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree
  • At least 4 years of Risk Management experience
  • At least 2 years of Project Management
  • Certification in Business Continuity (such as Certified Business Continuity Professional)
