DESCRIPTION

Job summary
Transportation Financial Systems (TFS) owns the technology components that perform the financial activities for transportation businesses. These systems are used across all transportation programs globally including retail expansions into new geographies. TFS systems provide financial document creation & management, expense auditing, accounting, payments, and cost allocation functions. Our new generation of products are highly scalable and operate at granular levels allowing Amazon to reconcile every dollar in transportation financial accounts with zero manual entries or corrections.

One of the cornerstones to these financial systems is the dedicated allocation infrastructure. Package Allocation of Cost of Transportation (PACT) strives to be the authority for all actual transportation costs incurred for a package or item which moves through the Amazon managed network or an affiliated 3rd party transportation network. PACT aims to be the authority for package and item transportation costs for the entirety of Ops and Retail decision-making systems. It seeks to standardize all transportation financial reporting across all Amazon geographies.

PACT€™s charter is to understand each of the activities that happens within the transportation network for all packages and items. It will understand the underlying cost drivers for a package and the item(s) within that package and then allocate those costs to the associated activities and movements to that package and item(s). It does so by ingesting costs, attributes, and activity information from various sources and then allocates the cost of transportation activities to packages utilizing those activities based on well-defined, standard allocation rules. PACT also provides a complete audit trail of cost allocation i.e. cost for each resource and activity that the package went through during its transportation journey, and also the rules/attributes used for cost allocation. PACT is one of the most critical components of transportation accounting automation and we aim to automate all of managerial accounting in Transportation by automating the Product line and channel allocations for all transportation costs. Our allocation platform requires building algorithms that are far from trivial and involves deep business understanding, mathematics, and machine learning (ML).

Additionally, you would also be working on core tech initiatives that involve product inputs on ML-based accrual predication, trend-based alarms, re-drive and reversal infrastructure, and Operational dashboards. We work closely with business, economics, tech teams, and senior leadership within retail and transportation to ensure that the cost allocation platform will accurately reflect the actual economics of the Amazon transportation business that is currently growing at an unprecedented scale. With the dynamic and the complex nature of the transportation business, we need an integrated solution for cost allocation to better inform operational and profit intelligence decisions.
