Job Summary

AECOM's Houston, Texas office is seeking a Senior Ports and Marine Project Manager. Responsibilities include:

  • Provides oversight and management for multiple projects that are less complex and less sensitive in nature. For example, projects assigned would be smaller in scale and scope.

  • Without any supervision, is responsible for and oversees all components of an assigned program.

  • Identifies problems, determines accuracy and relevance of information, uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to makes recommendations.

  • Manages program resources.

  • Directs the work of a group of Project and/or Program Managers.

  • Influences, motivates and challenges others while adapting leadership styles to a variety of situations.

  • Excellent presentation and communication skills in English (written and verbal). Good report and proposal writing skills.

  • Client relationships: Ability to develop new client relationships and to strengthen existing client relationships. Ability to identify, understand and focus on clients key requirements.

  • Commercial: Commercially aware, clear understanding of setting and working to business development goals, use of consultancy contracts, profit and loss.

  • Team Leadership: Good team leadership skills. Ability to lead a technical design team (civils) and to mentor and develop staff. Ability to manage staff resources. Self starter , energetic, pro-active.

  • Team Player: Strong team player, ability to work closely with colleagues.

  • Delivery: Commitment to delivery of quality output, on time and to budget. Ability to fully engage with projects and an eye for detail when required.

  • Integrity in dealing with clients, staff and business dealings

Additional job responsibilities may include:

  • Performs various management, leadership, and people accountability responsibilities for a specific technical group or department.

  • Has full responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating technical assignments.

  • Generally requires multi-disciplinary knowledge of engineering.

  • Plans and develops engineering tasks concerned with unique or controversial problems. This involves exploration of subject area, definition of scope and selection of problems for investigation and development of novel concepts and approaches.

  • Maintains liaison with units within the organization and individuals inside and outside of the organization.

  • Responsible for acting independently on technical matters pertaining to the field. Work at this level usually requires extensive progressive experience.

  • Works under minimal supervision. Supervision received is essentially administrative with assignments given in terms of broad general objectives and limits.

  • Manages group of engineers and/or technicians, coordinating activities of the unit.

Minimum Requirements

BA/BS + 8 YORE or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in civil engineering/ maritime engineering

  • 15 years experience in the ports or infrastructure engineering sector.

  • Previous experience in leading project teams and delivering projects to required quality standards, on time and within budget. Experience and understanding of project quality control, programming and budgeting.

  • Previous experience of developing and maintaining client relationships and orders with new and existing clients.

  • Previous experience with consultancy contracts.

  • Previous experience of team management and team building.

  • Port planning experience and experience in Oil & Gas sector an advantage.

  • Previous experience with international companies and /or working in an international setting an advantage.
