Position Summary:

The Senior Product Manager fully manages a portfolio of Life Science products and suppliers, primarily in the Proteomics areas for North America while managing the portfolio to drive growth in the segment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the product category including its application by customers, the breadth of brands and competitors, and the range of category requirements demanded by the laboratory research marketplace.
  • Serve as primary owner of strategic supplier relationships, managing categories and/or suppliers exceeding $200M.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day management of the products/suppliers.
  • Deploy strategies to source, negotiate, contract, and implement programs and otherwise drive revenue and profitability growth of the product portfolio.
  • Responsible for the management of the products/suppliers and supplier negotiations, consistently seeks out broader and higher relationships within the suppliers and effectively balances needs of suppliers across the category. Anticipate suppliers’ challenges and proactively seek solutions to address them.
  • Maintains cross-functional relationships with departments including Sales, Marketing, and Supply Chain.
  • Completes various financial analyses with support from manager/finance.
  • Will raise supplier funding for marketing, NSM and regional sales meetings, and other initiatives. Work with suppliers to plan spending of funding dollars each year targeting at promoting portfolio of products.
  • Prepare for, analyze data, and conduct quarterly business reviews with key suppliers.
  • Ad hoc requests to analyze categories/suppliers or to support various financial and operational initiatives.

The candidate must demonstrate leadership and strong relationship management and negotiation skills. The position of Senior Product Manager has a career path toward the position of Category Manager, who leads a team of Product Managers and a large portfolio of product categories.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field. An advanced degree in business or science is preferred.
  • 4+ years of relevant industry experience, preferably in product management.
  • Confidence and poise to successfully manage a relationship with executive level supplier partners.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lead senior level meetings and projects with minimal manager intervention.
  • Knowledge of laboratory products and applications, actual working laboratory experience, or understanding of customer requirements in laboratory settings.
  • Sales, marketing, or other commercial functional knowledge preferred.
  • Ability to develop/implement strategies and sound recommendations based on both quantitative and qualitative inputs with intuitive understanding of financial drivers.
  • Demonstrated leadership and project management skills.
  • Well-develop ability to participate in both matrix and senior level environments.
  • Strong proficiency in multi-tasking experience with exceptional organization and time-management skills.
  • Well-developed general business acumen with a thorough understanding of financial data and reporting methodologies, various performance metrics and ROI analyses.
  • Strong skills with Microsoft Office applications and ability to quickly learn/adapt to new productivity tools.
  • 15-20% travel in the U.S. and Canada. Valid passport
