Abbott is actively seeking candidates to fill a Sr. Technical MES Developer position to perform and direct the development, design, implementation, testing and delivery of MES Solutions. PNut, javascript or Java programming skills is preferred.

A successful Sr. Technical MES Developer must be able to quickly develop good working relationships with the Abbott project team members. They will participate in all phases of a project from requirements definition through plant startup. They also must work closely with Project Managers and other technical resources to deliver a successful technical solution that meets the project’s requirements for quality, budget, and schedule. Some amount of travel may be needed as per project requirements.


  • Lead, design and architect solutions involving multiple enterprise systems (MES, ERP, PLM).
  • Provide guidance to other team members and be accountable for large pieces of project.
  • Define functional requirements for MES solutions through interviews and documentation analysis and develop technical specifications to meet requirements.
  • Develop code in Javascript / Java to meet requirements / specs following established guidelines.
  • Trouble-shoot and debug code across multiple systems for issues that are escalated from Level 1 or Level 2 support.
  • Ensure system service availability at 99% by trouble-shooting application issues along with infrastructure team.
  • Provide project execution leadership and mentor fellow project members.
  • Work effectively at different levels within project teams.
  • Develop and improve processes, procedures and tools used in the execution of projects.
  • Act as a liaison between the internal project team, internal management, and customer project teams and management.
  • Plan and organize the work of a project team, develop the implementation strategies for projects, act as a mentor for individuals within the group, and resolve issues within project teams.
  • Start-up complex systems at shop floors.
  • Proactively develop customer relationships; anticipate and provide solutions to customer needs giving high priority to customer satisfaction.


    • BS degree in IT related field like MIS, Computer Science etc. Minimum of 10+ years overall experience, and at least 5 years’ experience working on complex enterprise systems. MES or supply chain experience is desired.
    • Good programming and algorithm development skills.
    • 5+ years proficiency in any object-oriented programming language (preferably Java) and scripting languages like Javascript.
    • Deployment experience with plant floor/Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) solutions.
    • Experience with the compliance of the systems and batch/unit record and data integrity.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with customers and employees at different levels of the organization.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
    • Quickly learn new skills and technologies like web services API of integrated systems.
    • ERP or Quality Systems integration to MES, a plus.
    • Knowledge of PLC, SCADA and equipment integration is highly desired.
    • Knowledgeable in FDA validation requirements preferred, including: User Requirement and Design Specs, Business Process Procedures, Design Reviews, Requirements gathering.
    • Experience with regulatory/compliance documentation and procedures is a plus.
