Job Description:

Responsibilities include the functional management of an Electrical Engineering department focusing on Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) Digital Design across the Space and Airborne Systems segment.

The FPGA Engineering Manager is responsible for managing and leading 60-100 Electrical Engineers that support the Harris Space and Airborne Systems Segment.  This includes supervision and leading of the Engineering organization including planning, development, and execution of all Engineering tasking on projects, pursuits, and programs related to FPGA design and analysis.  The Engineering Manager will also provide coaching and leadership development for a staff of Group Leaders.

  • Be accountable for FPGA performance across the Space and Airborne Systems segment and own the design and development process (including tools and process flows) for FPGA designs.  This will include FPGA-based methodologies supporting space, ground, electronic warfare and avionics designs.
  • Lead in the design, analysis, and development of complex digital algorithms.  Implementations may be in simulations, real-time hardware (FPGA) or software. 
  • Drive engineering productivity performance, improvements, and measures, and implement enduring corrective actions for design escapes
  • Meet functional requirements of staffing, recruiting, training, talent development, engagement, retention, and overall management of FPGA design and analysis
  • Proactively collaborate with Engineering Managers across Electrical Engineering to support business demands across the Space and Airborne Systems segment
  • Meet functional organization Annual Operating Plan direct labor revenue targets
  • Hold weekly one on one meetings with direct staff to build relationships and provide feedback and coaching
  • Perform risk assessments on programs within the Space and Airborne Systems segment
  • Support pursuits and proposals in the business, including review/approval of technical proposals and Basis of Estimates as needed.
  • Provide technical evaluation and oversight of program execution.  Lead technical issue resolution when required.  Participate and form Independent Review Teams to conduct technical review and oversight.
  • Lead department-level talent development, including technical and leadership succession planning, and implement knowledge transfer initiatives
  • Manage department budgets and identify department training required
  • Travel will be required once the COVID-19 travel restrictions are lifted.  This department will have employees across various Space and Airborne Systems locations
  • This position reports to the Director of FPGA Design for Space and Airborne Systems

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related field with 12+ years of professional experience, OR, Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related field with 10+ years of professional experience
    • Minimum of 5+ years’ experience with FPGA digital design tools and technologies.
    • Experience in FPGA architectures for Digital Signal Processing FPGA applications, FPGA timing closure, and design/analysis/simulation techniques
    • 5+ years’ experience in leading/managing Electrical Engineers or Engineering designs
    • Ability to obtain a TS/SCI security clearance

      Preferred Additional Skills:

      • Active TS/SCI or TS-Equivalent clearance preferred
      • FPGA design process subject matter expert
      • Altera and Xilinx FPGAs
      • Vivado and Quartus tool suite
      • Linux Environments
      • Out of box ideas to make designs more robust
      • Work in a team environment with Hardware, Software and Systems Engineering to solve complex FPGA functional issues
      • Hold department accountable to following sound FPGA design process
      • Drive down department FPGA defects through initiatives based on metrics and predictive analytics
      • Lead Root Cause Correct Action teams to drive rapid closure of FPGA technical issues and report to executives
      • Improve department FPGA design productivity over time
      • Demonstrated ability to over-communicate and proactively implement strategic decisions

      • Able to self-start and solve problems quickly

      • Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering is a plus
