On this team you lead a team of Applied Scientists who will analyze and model customer reading, text, images, and audio. Meeting business requirements will involve combining several different machine learning algorithms with domain knowledge into sophisticated ML workflows that automate what can be automated and efficiently utilize experts when needed to mitigate risk.We are looking for a Manager of Applied Science with domain expertise in Computer Vision and Machine Learning to lead development of new algorithms and E2E solutions that impact millions of customers. As a Manager of Applied Science at Amazon, you will connect with world leaders in your field working on similar problems. You will be working with large distributed systems of data and providing technical leadership to Applied Scientists, Product managers, Engineering leaders and organizations building machine learning solutions. You will be tackling Machine Learning challenges in Supervised and Unsupervised Learning; utilizing modern methods such as Deep Neural Networks and others. Applied Science manager will drive the ML vision for our products in areas such as machine learning, speech recognition, natural language processing, computer vision, and knowledge acquisition. They are externally aware of the state-of-the-art in their respective field of expertise and are constantly focused on advancing the state-of-the-art for improving Amazons products and services. Basic Qualifications<\/h2>
  • PhD degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, or equivalent<\/li>
  • 8+ years of experience in machine learning, data science or related fields<\/li>
  • Experience taking at least two large scale modeling projects from scoping requirements through actual launch and metric-driven performance monitoring in production<\/li>
  • Experience diving into data to discover hidden patterns and of conducting error/deviation analysis<\/li>
  • Experience creating prototypes to test devised solutions and leverage in-house platforms for validation<\/li>
  • Experience working with engineers to integrate the prototypes into production systems using standard software development tools and methodologies<\/li>
  • Experience building and managing applied science teams<\/li><\/ul>

    Preferred Qualifications<\/h2>
    • Project management experience desired for working on cross-functional projects<\/li>
    • Excellent written and verbal technical communication. Able to explain complex solutions in easy-to-understand terms.<\/li>
    • Comfortable working in a fast paced, highly collaborative, dynamic work environment<\/li>
    • A good understanding of analysis of algorithms and computational complexity<\/li>
    • Ability to think creatively and solve problems<\/li><\/ul>
