Position is responsible for providing category management support to the Kroger Team.  Responsibilities include providing advanced analytics, shopper and consumer insights and category recommendations to internal and external customers.

Candidates should have previous or current knowledge of the retail environment, how best in class retailers go to market, how to execute merchandising and assortment recommendations within National retailers. Candidates must have the ability to influence the customer at multiple retail levels with excellent communication and organizational skills.

Candidates should have the ability to identify and report findings, opportunities, and make recommendations; develop effective and accurate reporting tools.  Position will have interaction with customer and have high visibility with direct manager, sales managers, multiple team leaders, and director.

This position will report to the Team Lead, Category Management.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Provides consumption-based insights used in the management of product sales for the assigned customer accounts (e.g. assortment, shelving, pricing, promotion and profit).
  • Provide complete analysis of shopper behavioral data supporting customer and team initiatives using customer loyalty data and syndicated panel data.  Identify trends and opportunities and provide actionable recommendations/solutions.
  • Employs an understanding of concepts such as shopper insights, retail shelving, schematic planning, and pricing; technical knowledge of various computer systems and software; customer processes, systems and priorities; and the relationship of these functions.
  • Utilizes computer programs, databases and systems such as Nielsen, IRI dunnhumby/84.51 and Space Planning (Apollo, JDA) to create and maintain information used for tactical and strategic decisions on products/product categories.  Information includes in-depth data on business tracking, test marketing, point-of-sale, schematic planning and revisions, as well as numerous standardized and ad-hoc reports requested by internal staff and customers.
  • Complete analysis of data in support of sales management and customer.  Reports findings, opportunities and recommendations.
  • Integrates data from multiple resources to develop actionable insights and recommendations.
  • Participates in customer appointments and presentations.
  • Penetrate retailer to build relationship
  • Acts as a knowledge source and trainer to other sales personnel for Category Management, Shopper Insights and Abbott systems, including Nielsen, Space Planning and/or Apollo, retailer loyalty card and  Retailer POS system, Microsoft programs (PowerPoint, Excel, Word), and other data management tools.

    Qualified candidate must display the ability to work within a team environment, organize and complete task assigned.  Prior sales and/or category management experience with a background in consumer packaged goods preferred.

    • Strong Analytical and/or Sales experience within Retail Sales and/or the Consumer Packaged Goods industry
    • Manage and lead category management insights at the customer level through remote communication with manager and team
    • Experience with planogram tools (Space Planning, Apollo) and syndicated data(Nielsen/IRI tools)
    • Advanced to expert level technical skills (Microsoft Office Suite: Excel, Power Point, Power BI, Tableau and Access)
    • Ability to use multiple information sources to identify key opportunities to drive both supplier and retailer performance
    • Strong mathematical aptitude
    • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and organizational skills
    • Ability to take initiative/ownership of projects and see through to completion
    • Strong presentation skills
    • Creativity
