Sr. Associate, Product Manager

Our team is focused on building the future of analytics for Capital One. We hold a high bar when it comes to designing applications for our customers and we are now bringing that same practice to our internal analytical community. Our hypothesis is that by refining our tools and streamlining our processes, we can enable our associates to spend more of their time developing new insights and driving innovation. We are excited to bring to bear the talents of existing domain experts as well as cross-functional teams from product, engineering, design and the business. The final piece of the puzzle is our close connections with the start-up community and our academic partners, which ensure that our work is informed by industry trends and current research.

If you have an analytical mindset and a passion for human-centered design within a technologically rich environment, we want you!

You will need to understand customer requirements, partner closely with design, define stories, manage and prioritize the team backlog, and contribute to the overall team vision and roadmap. You will need to be equally comfortable talking with analysts as you are communicating with our engineers, designers and business partners. You should have a familiarity with Agile methodology and experience building enterprise-grade platforms or products. And you should be able to rally a team, build a strong culture, and work in a highly collaborative environment.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to...

  • Leveraging design thinking and other human-centered methodologies to better understand customer pain points

  • Acting as the voice of the business and the customer for the team

  • Developing a products vision, roadmap and OKRs (Objectives and Key Results)

  • Communicating the roadmap and the vision to the engineering team and stakeholders

  • Ensuring a healthy backlog by regularly grooming intent with the team

  • Prioritizing the product backlog to maximize business and customer outcomes

  • Defining acceptance criteria for work and signing off on user stories

  • Playing a key role in Agile ceremonies

  • Supporting the team with escalation and resolution of impediments

  • Collaborating across teams, roles, levels and locations

Heres what youll need to be successful

  • Hands-on knowledge of the practice of product development, including the ability to align product, business and technology strategies

  • A passion for understanding customers and designing creative solutions to meet their needs

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills across a range of contexts, from reporting, to business development, to vision setting

  • Excellent listening skills, which allow you to synthesize cohesive insights from research, feedback and business imperatives

  • An interdisciplinary curiosity and empathy which allow you to work effectively with engineers, analysts, data scientists, scrum masters, product managers, designers and executives.

  • A solid analytical background, with understanding of or hands-on experience with analytical tools and languages

  • A solid technical background, with understanding of or hands-on experience with software development and web technologies

  • An ability to bring people together - driving consensus through effective leadership

  • Comfort in complex and volatile environments

Basic Qualifications

- Bachelors Degree or military experience

- At least 1 year of experience in digital product management

Preferred Qualifications

  • A bachelors degree in an analytical, engineering or scientific field

  • A masters degree

  • 2+ years of experience managing cross-functional teams
