Job Description:

Develops, implements and analyzes manufacturing engineering plans and projects and communicates them to internal and external customers. Defines, develops and transfers manufacturing and engineering tools, strategies and systems. Develops manufacturing strategies for specific products and processes. Actively participates with engineering project teams in order to coordinate the release of new products. Estimates and tracks manufacturing costs, determines time standards, and makes recommendations for tooling and process requirements of new or existing product lines. Maintains records and reporting systems for coordination of manufacturing operations. Responsible for resolving manufacturing problems, development of complete route sheets and assembly procedures, DFM, design of assembly tooling and fixtures, plant and equipment layout, implementation of engineering change orders, capital equipment specification and responsible for quality defect-free products during engineering development of new products to ensure cost effective production.

Essential Functions:

  • Intermediate professional with practical knowledge of job area. Works under moderate supervision to set objectives for own job area. Communicates with contacts inside and outside own team to explain and interpret operational processes, practices, and procedures Identifies and addresses changes within own job area. Works to achieve operational targets with some impact on departmental results.
  • Works under moderate supervision. Works independently on larger, moderately complex projects or assignments. Sets objectives for own job area to meet the goals of projects and assignments. May provide guidance and assistance to entry level professionals and/or support level employees.
  • Communicates with contacts within and outside of own team which may include customers or vendors. Explains and interprets operational processes, practices and procedures of the job area to others within the organization.
  • Work consists of making basic adjustments to systems and processes to solve problems. Identifies, defines and addresses general problems that are typically within the immediate job area. Problems are typically solved through drawing from prior experiences or standard procedures and basic analysis.
  • Works to achieve operational targets within job area with some impact on department results. Contributes to the completion of milestones associated with specific projects.
  • Ability to lead various DFM design activities of new products to be producible within existing assembly environment providing the highest quality and cost-effective products and ensures timely implementation and resultant quality.
  • Ability to drive implementation of recommendations regarding engineering changes to increase manufacturing ease, yields and reduce assembly costs.
  • Ability to lead the designing and coordinating the construction of assembly tooling and fixtures and rapidly resolves manufacturing problems determining root cause and mistake proofing to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Ability to lead the timely and effective planning, developing, implementation and maintenance of all assembly and process documentation.
  • Responsible for training of assembly and process personnel.
  • Assists in the evaluation of engineering change orders and ensures compliance with manufacturing requirements; devises manufacturing methods and makes adjustments to manufacturing processes to incorporate change orders; initiates investigations of assembly or design problems based on analysis of manufacturing statistics or other data and works with design engineering to develop and implement engineering change orders to correct problems.
  • Provides technical advice and contributes to make or buy decisions regarding components and subassemblies.
  • Ability to communicate with suppliers, conducts research and assists with the specification of new materials and review discrepant materials, making recommendation for disposition; assists vendors and subcontractors to resolve operating or material problems and responsible for ensuring delivery of defect-free products from suppliers.
  • Investigates new technology, material flow, plant layout and assembly processes and specifies manufacturing equipment and develops justifications for the purchase of capital equipment.
  • Prepares and implements plant layouts and defines workstations and equipment locations to ensure effective assembly operations.
  • Ability to drive the review of new business proposals to ensure that standards and workmanship specifications are suited to the organizations’ operational capabilities; outlines areas of nonconformity and provides methods for compliance.
  • Develops, maintains and monitors project schedules.
  • Understands/utilizes internal L3Harris processes and tools for manufacturing design/documentation; shares process/tool knowledge with others as well as recommends process improvements.
  • Mentors Engineers.
  • Responsible for performing job duties in a manner consistent with established L3Harris Ethics Standards.
  • Responsible for working in a manner consistent with established safety rules and regulations and the use and maintenance of required personal protective equipment (example: safety glasses).
  • Performs job duties in accordance with approved procedures established in support of Sarbanes-Oxley regulations. Provides technical input on supplier selection in accordance with these regulations as well as mentor’s subordinates on Sarbanes-Oxley compliance.
  • Works under general direction.  Independently determines and develops approach to solutions.  Work is reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives. Typically, influential in setting long-term goals and objectives.
  • Provides technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems. Performance has an impact on staffing, cost and schedule.
  • Frequent inter-organizational and outside customer contacts. Represents the organization in providing solutions to difficult technical issues associated with specific projects.


    • Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience or 2 years post-Secondary/ Associates Degree and a minimum of 6 years of prior related experience. Graduate Degree or equivalent with 0 to 2 years of prior related experience.
    • 2+ years’ of related technical experience including electrical or mechanical engineering principles.

      Preferred Additional Skills:

      • Demonstrates understanding and wide application of technical principles, theories, and concepts in the field.
      • Ability to execute troubleshooting, problem solving and decision making within the Electrical Engineering discipline.
      • Applies engineering theories/concepts/principles to achieve technical specifications and objectives. Completes assignments and projects within a set schedule. Works effectively in a team environment.
      • Has the ability to lead teams through conflict, clarify objectives, and develop consensus/buy-in as required. Takes ownership of results within area of influence.
