The Communications Systems, West division located in San Diego, CA is a global leader in design, development, integration and test. Our organization specializes in SHF SATCOM, Electronic Warfare Systems, HF/VHF Tactical Multi-band Software-Defined Radios, Threat Simulators and Millimeter Wave Obfuscation Systems.  We also integrate sophisticated ground-based SIGINT systems into mobile platforms such as Prophet and complicated intelligence systems into mobile tactical platforms for IMINT and GEOINT data collection and processing.

L3Harris is seeking a talented, Systems Test Engineer to join our team as a critical contributor to the testing and deployment of SATCOM modems. As a Systems Test Engineer, you will manage the day-to-day verification testing of system requirements and perform related responsibilities.

Essential Functions:

  • Support the design, development, and execution of system integration and test efforts to ensure the system meets its complex program requirements.

  • Responsible for the execution of the tests, including in-process troubleshooting, debug identification/resolution, and test report development.

  • Responsible for ensuring that all instrumentation capabilities will meet the overall requirements for the test, as coordinated with the lead systems engineer (LSE) and lead systems test verification engineer (LSVE).

  • Manage the day-to-day usage of  physical resources to support verification and validation efforts.

  • Manage the day-to-day test activities with supporting team members.

  • Ensure that all data artifacts are collected and reviewed.

  • Manage schedule and budget and attend appropriate program reviews.


    • US Citizen.

    • Ability to obtain a DoD security clearance.

    • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.

    • Minimum of 4 years of related experience in systems engineering/systems test and evaluation OR a Master’s Degree in same majors with at least 2 years of related experience.

    • Strong test and troubleshooting skills.

    • Experience designing, developing and implementing test equipment for use on UUT evaluations.

    • Experience developing and executing Design Verification Tests for complex components and systems.

    • Working knowledge of military standards.

    • Outstanding technical communication skills (written, verbal and presentation).

    • Work well in a team environment.

      Preferred Additional Skills:

      • Prior experience in the verification and validation of communications systems.

      • Familiarity with AGILE development theories and practical applications.

      • Familiarity with SATCOM waveforms.

      • Time management skills, ability to complete tasks on time.

      • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
