Position Summary

Applies mechanical design and drafting principles to support, and maintain, L3Harris FOS product lines during design, development, and production.  This role supports design, development, and testing of new products; interacting with a multidisciplinary design team and working within established design guidelines to ensure products meet or exceed customer specifications.  In addition, this role supports production of existing products, working with manufacturing and quality to design and document tooling, test equipment, and inspection fixtures.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as lead mechanical designer on various programs working alongside program mechanical engineer to develop designs that meet customer specifications
  • Responsible for managing assigned programs’ CAD part and assembly models and associated prints
    • Generate designs and technical data package      (engineering models and drawings) in accordance with industry, FOS, and      customer requirements
    • Participate in peer reviews of co-worker’s drawings and      design change implementations
    • Implement design changes to production      hardware
    • Assist mechanical engineering with      tolerance analyses as needed
    • Collaborate with PWB design team to      integrate electrical design models into mechanical CAD models
    • Support Test Equipment Engineering      developing and documenting test fixtures for in-process production testing      of circuit card assemblies
    • Support Manufacturing Engineering      developing and documenting various manufacturing fixtures and production      tooling
    • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by      acting and communicating in a manner that is cooperative and supportive of      customers, co-workers and managers


      • Associates Degree in Mechanical Engineering      or related field
      • 3-5 years of relevant design and CAD      experience required
      • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office      (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
      • Experience using CAD software such as Solid Edge,      SolidWorks, NX etc.
      • Knowledge of ASME Y14.5 and other drafting standards
      • Knowledge of GD&T application and interpretation
      • Understand configuration management as it      applies to product documentation
      • Proficient in generating and interpreting engineering      drawings
      • Strong technical writing and communication skills
      • Solid understanding of manufacturing methods as well as      design for manufacturability
      • Basic understanding of physics, engineering mechanics, and      mechanics of materials
      • Experience with test and manufacturing fixture design
      • Ability & willingness to be adaptable and accept      feedback as part of our peer review process


        • Knowledgeable in DoD and MIL standards/specifications      or other highly regulated industry
        • Experience with AS9100 and ISO 9001 quality standards
        • Knowledgeable in engineering materials and 3D printing
        • Experience with modeling for finite element analysis
        • Experience with gage design and/or inspection methods
        • Experience with tolerance analysis and stack-ups
