At VMware, we currently have an exciting opportunity within our Dell Technologies Solutions development team for a highly motivated Solutions Architect to join our team in the Austin area.  This role fits within a small, elite team and will provide opportunities to innovate within multiple industry domains, contribute to the resolution our customers business challenges, and impact product roadmaps across the expansive Dell Technologies portfolio (Dell EMC, VMware, Virtustream, etc.).
In this role, you will own the management of a distributed network of small development labs used to support numerous Dell Technologies Solutions Proof of concepts (POCs) identified through a fast-paced innovation process. 
You will support a small team of solutions architects to take a diverse array of novel solution ideas and prove their feasibility by instantiating the proposed architecture in a lab environment.   You will be responsible for contributing to the initial architectural design, specifying and supporting the procurement process for the architectural components, and ultimately deploying and provisioning the target architecture.   Once each proof of concept is underway, continue to respond to input as the designs evolves. 
On an ongoing basis, you will ensure the resources at the multiple lab sites are updated to ensure they can be quickly incorporated into the next POC.  You will be expected to document each architecture and keep a current inventory of all components within the various lab environments.
Additionally, you will be expected maintain a current understanding of the Dell Technologies portfolio as new products are developed and released to prepare you to contribute to the innovation process.
This is a highly technical position that will require an advanced understanding of virtualization, data center operations, and systems architecture and the scope of expertise will include enterprise server, storage & networking & existing cloud software platforms as well as various client computing technologies.

  • Integrate and maintain physical and virtual infrastructure solutions in support of agile SW development activities
  • Ability to read and comprehend complex reference architectures with the hands on expertise to implement end-to-end
  • Must be proficient in VMware products as well as networking and HCI platforms
  • Install, upgrade, and maintain various VMware and Dell Technologies products in the lab
  • Troubleshoot and repair any environmental issues regarding hardware or software.
  • Research & implement industry best practices. 
  • Maintain active inventory of assets and perform ongoing maintenance and administration of development infrastructure (e.g. AD, DNS, DHCP, NTP, vCenter) and required tools.
  • Manages work through Confluence/Jira. 
  • Document & post final environmental configurations and associated industry best practices.
  • Execute given assignments in a self-directed manner, anticipate issues, and modify procedures as necessary.  

    Required Experience and Education:
  • A Bachelors degree in a related technical field or equivalent
  • 4+ years relevant experience
  • Demonstrated experience in a Systems Administration role (LINUX & VMware)
  • Strong understanding of Internet/IP related technologies including, but not limited to, routing, switching and sub-netting.
  • Understanding of core ISP technologies such as DNS, SMTP, HTTP/S.
  • Working understanding of data center protocols including: CIFS, NFS FC, and iSCSI storage protocols; DNS, DHCP, LDAP, TCP/IP, and basic networking infrastructure such as switching and routing.
  • Virtualization/Cloud infrastructure environments: VMWare product portfolio emphasis on vSphere, vCenter, vSAN, VMware Cloud Foundation & NSX
  • Linux (RHEL, CentOS) PXE, Kickstart
  • Network Admin level understanding of OSI model, Layer2 and Layer3 protocols (ie. vLANs, FCoE, DCBx convergence, SNMP, STP, Link Aggregation)
  • Must have highly effective written or verbal communication skills
    Desired experience
  • Experience with Dell Enterprise, Server, Storage and Networking platforms.
  • Familiarity with HCI platforms and SDS and SDN concepts and technology.
  • Working experience with Visio and architecture design documentation.
  • Must be self-motivated as well as creative and efficient in proposing solutions to complex, time-critical problems.
  • Ability to understand and communicate technical issues and ability to work with diverse teams.
