The division Abbott Informatics (AI) sells Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and offers state of the art web-based solutions to a broad range of clients. Abbott has over 25 years’ experience with STARLIMS implementations at hundreds of laboratories in the chemical, food, petrochemical, forensic, pharmaceutical and clinical sectors. AI Netherlands is based in Alkmaar ( working on remote is possible ), The Netherlands, and is looking to grow its team with a technically savvy and driven: Configuration Software Engineer.

Primary Job Function- Responsibility and authority of the job

  • Primary function is to configure, modify and extend a STARLIMS out of the box solution to address customer requirements.
  • Participate in a team-oriented environment to install software and configure document and test laboratory workflows business rules system and instrument interfaces create and modify reports and queries and perform data migration validation testing and training of customer personnel.
  • Provide technical capabilities for planning and implementing system installation upgrade configuration and related change control and verification activities for Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and oversee execution within the area of responsibility.
  • Provide day-to-day support including problem resolution and coordination of operational activities.
  • Research & evaluate alternative solutions and make recommendations for improved system operations.

    Core Job Responsibilities Primary tasks or activities this job performs on an ongoing basis

    • Collaborate with the project manager/business analyst to engineer an effective solution to meet the customer's requirements and execute tasks according to the project plan.
    • Execute software configuration life cycle activities from design and implementation through testing and documentation while maintaining compliance to project configuration plans and practices.
    • Uphold documentation standards for project and manage deliverables for area of responsibility.
    • Follow installation upgrade configuration and operating procedures for complex and multiple systems and support training and coaching of personnel on these practices.
    • Understand business impact of supported systems establish and maintain technical support service levels and ensure that they are being met on a regular basis.
    • Understand and apply the use of database monitoring and querying tools (i.e. TOAD SQL).
    • Responsible for compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies and procedures.
    • Assist Project Manager/Business Analyst in developing project plan and configuration plan with task effort estimates.
    • Discuss complex technical issues/questions with customers to make binding decisions.

      Position Accountability / Scope

      • This is an entry-level individual contributor position.
      • Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
      • Activities will be under the guidance of a more senior engineer or Project Manager.
      • A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.
      • Accountable for meeting deliverable commitments including schedule and quality compliance. Errors or failure to achieve results may result in project delays and/or the expenditure of more resources.
      • Involved with customer presentations customer training or internal training for STARLIMS personnel.
      • Under direction of Technical Manager execute against product development plan to implement product improvements add new features and resolve product issues/bugs.
      • Thoroughly test and document work with preparation of detailed Functional Requirements Specifications and Software Design Specifications.
      • Create and update Entity Relationship Diagrams (ERDs).
      • Maintain high customer service by assisting support with customer issue resolution and coordinate inclusion of customer issue resolution with product/project patches and releases.
      • Function as project implementation engineer.
      • Install STARLIMS software and configure STARLIMS core product to address customer functional and workflow requirement.
      • Coordinate with Project Manager and vertical product team to investigate alternatives to maximize the leverage of the out of the box capabilities and to provide timely feedback on product defects and product enhancement opportunities.
      • Prepare and deliver prototype demos as functionality is configured and document and adjust based on customer feedback.
      • Performs other duties as assigned within area of responsibility.
      • An individual contributor in this position may travel 10-40% of time or abroad as required per project assignment.

        Minimum Education

        • B.S. in Computer Science or similar engineering discipline including Software Engineering
          Electrical Engineering or Biomedical Engineering is required.

           Minimum Experience / Training Required
           

          • Programming: Strong SQL capabilities especially SQL code optimization skills and knowledge of (object oriented) programming concepts.
          • Good programming skills in at least one programing language, preferable C++/C#/JAVA/Jscript/PHP
          • Knowledge/Experience with Oracle client and / or Microsoft SQL-Server (configuration/troubleshooting/optimization, multiple application connections from Oracle/MS workstation clients to various Oracle/MS databases).
          • Quality System: Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) management, Validation and Qualification, Administration of regulated applications, Change Management (data and configuration), System and Network Security, Disaster Recovery.
          • Documentation: SDLC Documentation, Installation Instructions, Change Requests, Test Protocols and Training Materials.
          • Knowledge of Laboratory Information Management Systems would be an asset.
          • Knowledge of laboratory operations would be an asset.
          • System and Application Monitoring: NetIQ, TOAD, Oracle, development of automated monitoring and support processes and procedures.
          • Knowledge/ Experience of one or more tools like Enterprise Architect, Subversion, Oracle Enterprise Manager and / or JIRA would be an asset
          • Requires strong analytical and communication skills as well as sound judgment and the ability to work effectively with Business Analysts, Software Developers, and customers. Very good oral and written communication skills.
          • Total Combined Experience: 2+ years.
