We are looking for an experienced Software Development Manager to drive the development of the iOS version of the Alexa app. You will be in charge of building a scalable and performant app foundation (start up, navigation, experimentation) that can support rapid development by hundreds of engineers. You will lead a team of engineers in design, development, test, and deployment of cloud-connected mobile apps to a huge user base. A successful candidate will have an established background of building native mobile apps, with extensive technical knowledge of development techniques and latest practices on iOS. You are a leader with progressive technical experience, a demonstrated progression of management scope, and a passion for managing engineering talent in a fast-paced environment. You have kept your coding skills sharp, and possess exceptional project management and communication skills.

Key job responsibilities

• Responsible for the overall software development life cycle.
• Management and execution against project plans and delivery commitments; Manage the day-to-day activities of the engineering team within an Agile/Scrum environment.
• Management of departmental resources, staffing, mentoring, enhancing and maintaining a best-of-class engineering team.
• Work closely with the engineers to architect and develop the best technical design and approach.
• Contribute substantively to innovation on mobile and overcome technology limitations to deliver on customer experience.
• Report on status of development, quality, operations, and system performance to management.
• Responsible for the maintenance and enhancement of frameworks.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• 7+ years of experience working directly within engineering teams
• Experience partnering with product OR program management teams
• 3+ years of people management experience, managing engineers
• 3+ years of experience architecting and designing (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• A strong desire to have fun while changing the world.
• Experience managing efforts in cloud software services, distributed systems and/or developing large scale mobile applications
• Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical individuals including external partners
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Track record for being detail-oriented with a demonstrated ability to self-motivate and follow-through on projects
• Experience developing and launching products that require collaboration between internal cross-functional tech teams and external partner teams.
