DESCRIPTION

Job summary
Amazon Advertising operates at the intersection of eCommerce and advertising, offering a rich array of digital display advertising solutions with the goal of helping our customers find and discover anything they want to buy. We help advertisers reach Amazon customers on Amazon.com, across our other owned and operated sites, on other high quality sites across the web, and on millions of Kindles, tablets, and mobile devices. We start with the customer and work backwards in everything we do, including advertising. If you€™re interested in joining a rapidly growing diverse team working to build a unique advertising group with a relentless focus on the customer, you€™ve come to the right place.

We are looking for a Software Development Engineer to leverage our cloud services, unique data, the latest machine learning methods and big data technologies to develop solutions that help our self-service advertisers reach their full potential. You will have the opportunity to collaborate closely with our software leaders, learn new technologies, innovate, and contribute to new ads products that our global customers use daily.

As part of the Funnel Optimization Experience team, you'll collaborate with a team of engineers, product managers, and data scientists to build systems that deliver the visualizations, recommendations, benchmarks and metrics advertisers need to orchestrate our full suite of ad products. Our Success will require balancing big, industry changing goals with a bias for action and consistent delivery of advertiser value. We are growing very fast and breaking new ground, so the ideal candidate is invigorated by an environment of ambiguity and constant change, where they have an opportunity to influence our direction.

The systems you will build will scale and manage high-volume ad datasets, interface with external systems, and provide the machine learning intelligence that enables our distributed systems to make accurate decisions in real-time. If you want to be a part of a rapidly growing business and high performing team, have the opportunity to expand your technical skills into emerging technologies, and invent world class experiences for our customers, this is the team for you.

Great candidates for this role enjoy being challenged with discovering technical solutions to complex problems, diving deep into the details, and continuously evolve their technology skills. They will build both the technical and business acumen to deliver results, and gain the foresight to identify emerging technology opportunities for our customers.

  • Write high quality distributed system software
  • Work in an agile, startup-like development environment

A day in the life
Work/Life Balance
  • Our team puts a high value on work-life balance. Most days (pre-COVID-19), our teams are co-located in the Seattle Campus, but we€™re also flexible when people need to work from home. Some teams meet twice per week in the office and others generally keep core in-office hours from 10am to 4pm. About half of the SDEs come in earlier and the other half of us stay later. Due to the evolving COVID-19 environment, Amazon corporate employees are working from home until our organization safely returns to the office (this date will be determined and communicated by your manager or HR Business Partner).

On-Call Responsibility
  • The positions involve some on-call responsibilities, typically each team follows a standard process to limit the on-call requirement to a minimal. On average some of the teams follow one week every two months. We don€™t like getting paged in the middle of the night or on the weekend, so we work to ensure that our systems are fault tolerant. When we do get paged, we work together to resolve the root cause so that we don€™t get paged for the same issue twice.

Mentorship & Career Growth
  • Our teams are dedicated to supporting new team members. Our teams have a broad mix of experience levels and Amazon tenures, and we€™re building an environment that celebrates knowledge sharing and mentorship. Our senior engineers truly enjoy mentoring more junior engineers and engineers from non-traditional backgrounds through one-on-one mentoring and thorough, but kind, code reviews.
  • We care about your career growth. We try to assign projects and tasks based on what will help each team member develop into a better-rounded engineer and enable them to take on more complex tasks in the future. You will have the opportunity to contribute across the full stack and even dabble in some novel big data opportunities to build the next generation of our analytics, visualization and campaign management platform. You will have the opportunity to grow and broaden your technical skills as you work in an environment that thrives on creativity, experimentation, and product innovation.

Inclusive Team Culture
  • Our teams are intentional about attracting, developing, and retaining amazing talent from diverse backgrounds. Yes we do get to build a really cool services, but we also think a big reason for that is the inclusive and welcoming culture we try to cultivate every day. We€™re looking for new teammates who are enthusiastic, empathetic, curious, motivated, reliable, and able to work effectively with a diverse team of peers; engineers who will help us amplify the positive & inclusive team culture we€™ve been building.
