Senior Transportation Planner / Project Manager

Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a talented senior transportation planner/project manager to join our diverse transportation planning group in the Southeast Region. This position is a great fit for a seasoned, technically experienced transportation professional ready to support and take on responsibility and ownership of a myriad to diverse transportation projects across multiple disciplines.

Example projects include alternatives assessments, feasibility studies, corridor studies, regional/statewide plans, environmental studies (NEPA documentation), facility planning/design, and TOD/station-area plans.

The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Help our clients think strategically regarding ways to solve complex transportation challenges;

  • Analyze and recommend transportation system improvements based on technological change and economic, population, land use, and traffic projections;

  • Analyze data from modeling software, geographic information systems or associated databases;

  • Communicate complex transportation technical information in clear, engaging and creative ways to a variety of audiences;

  • Collaborate with engineers to research, analyze, or resolve complex transportation design issues;

  • Assist or lead environmental and NEPA-related projects and tasks, including EIS, EA, and CE documentation with FTA, FRA, and FHWA as lead agencies;

  • Prepare presentation materials and facilitate meetings with client staff, agency boards, and commissions and elected officials; and

  • Participate in public meetings and hearings to explain planning proposals, and gather feedback from those affected by projects, or achieve consensus on project designs

Task and project management:

  • Manage technical tasks and projects, including managing task and project teams, presenting to and working with a range of clients, monitoring project budgets and schedules, developing technical approaches and executing work, assisting with quality control, and coordinating among technical disciplines; and

Business development and pursuits

  • Help maintain excellent client relationships through attentive service, project delivery, communication and professionalism, and anticipation of client needs;

  • Assist business development activities through client agency and peer firm networking, internal and external knowledge sharing of AECOM technical experience and capabilities, and engaging with local and national industry trends and innovation; and

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in planning, engineering, environmental science, public policy or a related field;

  • 10+ years of professional-level experience in transportation planning;

  • Experience managing projects or coordinating technical disciplines for transportation agencies, involving close client contact;

  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills, including developing engaging reports, and memoranda for the range of client, public stakeholder, and decision-maker audiences;

  • Excellent document delivery skills: report organization and technical editing, development of information graphics, an efficient delegation of assignments, and ability to work under multiple deadlines;

  • Experience working in North American stakeholder-based transportation or community planning context; and

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of USDOT Federal Transit Administration guidelines and processes

  • Master's Degree in planning, engineering, environmental science, public policy, or a related field

  • 15+ years of experience in transportation planning;
