This highly visible role as a Senior Technical Manager will provide the opportunity to showcase and grow both technical and organizational leadership. The person in this position will lead KCNSC Materials Engineering within the Engineering Function. Direct reports will include technical managers and overall organization size will be range from 65 to 90 employees, comprised mostly of degreed engineers and scientists. The focus of the organization is to provide material engineering expertise related to material sourcing/procurement, applied materials engineering R&D, and production support.  Additionally, this role will collaborate with the KCNSC COEs to engage technology partners within the NSE, industry, and academia to evolve and grow KCNSC science-based capabilities and mature new technology for possible insertion.   The position also fosters Six Sigma continuous improvement and growth philosophy while driving efficiencies throughout the function and assuring success of engineering strategies.

Summary of Duties:

  • Manages and coordinates with direct reports and COE leaders the activities related to major technology innovations and deployments. Confers with staff personnel to plan and resolve technical or administrative problems affecting production or development projects
  • Provides technical resources for a variety of projects
  • Assure compliance with financial plans
  • Participate or lead studies to evaluate strategic long range projects and to ensure the attainment of established goals
  • Review information and reports to monitor the organization's overall effectiveness and its progress toward continuous improvement
  • May perform other duties as required
  • Directly supervises Engineering Managers and other support personnel in the organization. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws

    You Must Have:

    • Must be a U.S. Citizen in order to obtain a DOE €œQ€ Level security clearance
    • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Engineering (ABET accredited), Physics, Science or related technical/scientific field
      • Minimum nine (9) years€™ experience in progressively challenging and accountable\rengineering and/or operations roles.
      • Minimum of five (5) years supervisory experience or four (4) years supervisory\rexperience with an additional two (2) years of direct responsibility for\rmulti-million dollar projects or programs requiring direct customer management,\rexecutive leadership communication, and overall customer requirements\rmanagement.
        • Ability to travel up to 20%
