Position Description:

The MMS (Multi Mission Solution) Chief Engineer is responsible for directing the development and implementation of technical solutions in support of business area goals and objectives.The Chief Engineer directs all engineering functions of the organization in accordance with the policies, practices and strategy of L3 Technologies. The Chief Engineer will: Lead the development of the technical roadmap for the development of technologies required to meet the business�s strategic plan. Provide technical expertise, analysis and direction for the development and implementation of processes required for successful program delivery to our customers. Coordinate engineering activities for a variety of MMS programs while meeting established corporate goals, objectives and policies. Work cross functionally with all areas of the business to meet on time delivery and quality requirements to each customer.

Specific Responsibilities:                                                                                                    

  • Provide leadership and mentoring to a multi-discipline/multi-product engineering team.
  • Manage engineering budgets, indirect cost management, and take part in budget planning and forecasting.
  • Plan and allocate appropriate engineering resources for projects and provide scheduling, man-power, asset allocation, budgets and estimates to complete programs by deadline.
  • Guide the Engineering Organization with a Continuous Improvement mindset, utilizing process improvement methods/tools/training.
  • Assist in the identification and removal of barriers to successful project completion.
  • Lead direct technical interface with multiple customers.
  • Plan and Lead the alignment and management of internal research and development budgets toward specific technology developments that align to strategic growth and capability initiatives.
  • Establish priorities to all active and new programs.
  • Continuously evolve a high performing engineering team aligned with the strategic objectives of the business.
  • Provide career leadership and personal development for the engineering team.
  • Liaise with program leaders and customers to understand their requirements, propose engineering alternatives, and resolve any product related issues.
  • Create, track and report milestones to senior management throughout the product development life cycle, from early stage feasibility, through all design phases, up to and including qualification testing and transition to production.
  • Provide status updates on the team's tasks and ensure on time completion. Evaluate missed targets and identify and address root causes such as training requirements, process and methodology improvements.
  • Establish, conduct and maintain internal design reviews and guidelines for product development and engineering designs. Identify engineering risks and oversee/monitor the associated mitigations.

    Requirements: 

    Minimum Bachelors Degree in an Engineering discipline with a minimum of fifteen (15) years of applicable experience required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered. A Masters degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Aeronautical or Systems Engineering is preferred. 

    • Minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible positions with at least 2 years management or leading large, platform integration technical teams.
    • Demonstrated ability to deliver results in both design and manufacturing/integration environments.
    • Proven experience building, managing and developing effective and innovative technical teams.
    • Experience taking product from engineering concept through development and ultimately transition to production, preferably with ISR and strike oriented systems preferred.
    • Experience with Design-to-Cost developmental efforts.
    • Effective collaboration skills and strategy development with peers and senior leaders.
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate, brief and interact with leadership and customers at strategic and tactical levels.
    • Knowledge of AS9100, Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA).
    • Familiarity with aircraft certification and test processes, both DoD and civilian.
    • Experience working with foreign customers and/or allied partners highly desired.
    • Strict adherence to meeting scheduling deadlines and holding individuals accountable to meet customer requirements.
    • Approximately 25-35% travel will be required.

      Position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Security Clearance, which requires U.S. Citizenship.
