Job Description:

Leads Manufacturing Engineering activities throughout the fabrication, assembly, integration, and/or test process for highly complex and technical electro-mechanical/electro-optical aerospace products. The type of hardware produced at this L3Harris location is often complex, containing scanners, telescopes, aft optics, detectors, active and passive coolers, electronic units with circuit card assemblies (CCAs), calibration targets, thermal control systems, multi-layer insulation, and cables/harnesses.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead development of mechanical assembly strategies for new products, including process design and development, process documentation, and fixture design and development. 
  • Plan and support the build and modification of mechanical and electronics systems including procurement support, assembly method/work instruction generation, tooling design support, material/process development, facilities/equipment planning, implementation of design changes, and resolution of manufacturing, quality, and reliability issues
  • Interface with design engineers to ensure hardware producibility by developing build strategies
  • Interface with lead operations, engineering, program management, vendor and subcontractor representatives to ensure requirements are met
  • Assist with high visibility manufacturing efforts with formal cost and schedule responsibilities and some direct customer interface.
  • Use designed experiments and FMEA techniques to identify robust processes and to improve existing ones
  • Participate in Design for Assembly and Manufacturing initiatives to drive simplification efforts.
  • Use standard e3/Lean Six Sigma philosophy/tools for ongoing improvements
  • Support development and implementation of quality metrics to drive improvement and business results
  • Support the root cause and corrective action process
  • Participate in general factory support activities: Yellow Board, Lean Huddles, e3, failure investigations, and audits.


    • BS degree in Engineering or a technical field (mechanical, manufacturing, electrical, or industrial engineering preferred) with 6+ years of industry experience, or MS degree in Engineering or a technical field (ME, IE, or EE preferred) with 4+ years of industry experience
    • 4+ years experience with ITAR or EAR projects
    • Ability to occasionally travel up to 20%

      Preferred Additional Skills:

      • Proficient computer skills, including MS Office
      • Knowledge of cleanroom protocols and proper handling of flight hardware
      • Self-starter and able to work successfully with minimal supervision
      • Effective oral and written communication skills
      • Manage own workload and set priorities
      • 3D Modeling Software experience for fixture/ tooling design – CREO preferred
      • Experience with e3 (Lean/6 Sigma) tools and processes
      • Project management/cost account management experience
      • Electro-Mechanical Assembly process experience including fixture design, sensors, and process development
      • Experience with workmanship standards, including NASA 8739 standards and J-STD-001
      • Six Sigma Green Belt
