**Senior Mechanical Design Engineer**

This position has the responsibility and authority to apply education, experience, and technical expertise toward developing world class medical products for spine surgery. Participates in the design, development and testing with an emphasis on mechanical product development including feasibility design for new concepts and refinement of existing systems. Uses previous device or cross industry experience to collaborate and bring diversity to the business.

**Day in the life:**

Responsible for designing and developing instrument systems and implants for spine surgery that deliver the highest level of performance from conception to full release.

Responsible for mechanical designs that meet both internal and external customer requirements and are optimized for manufacturability, reliability and cost.

Responsible for writing requirements, design implementation, writing test plans, consulting during testing and completion of verification reports.

Interface with outside vendors as needed to communicate design requirements and databases to ensure the accuracy of parts and subsystem manufacturing by vendors.

Performs troubleshooting and problem solving efforts related to the development projects. Supports decisions through engineering and analysis of data.

Mentors associate level engineers and provides guidance on best practices for design, development, solid modeling, testing, and customer feedback.

Contributes to the evaluation of new technology, new products, materials and processes as they are implemented

Presents technical updates to senior management during project review meetings.

All activities must be performed in compliance with the Quality System.

Performs duties in compliance with environmental, health and safety related site rules, policies or governmental regulations.

All other duties as assigned.

Travel requirement: 10-20%

**Must Have: Minimum Qualifications**

- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related technical field

- 4+ years of experience with Bachelors Degree OR 2+ years of experience with an Advanced Degree

**Nice to Have**

BS / BA Mechanical Engineering or Biomedical Engineering.

4+ years of experience in mechanical design and development

Expert knowledge of 3D modeling environments, best practices for modeling and use of FEA to reduce time and cost of fatigue testing

Experience with mechanical linkage design, structural design, and complex assemblies.

Experience and knowledge of mechanical engineering discipline and application of mechanical theories to practical concept design.

Expert understanding and able to successfully move a project through design control, quality and regulatory system processes including product lifetime management.

Experience in deriving, refining and prioritizing user and technical requirements at the project team level.

Experience optimizing requirements for production, reliability and cost using DRM.

Design skills include an understanding of drafting standards, GDT in compliance with ASTM Y14.5, DFSS/DFMA, tolerance analysis and DFMEA methodologies.

Computer proficient and skilled with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and typical file sharing platforms.

Solid working knowledge of regulatory requirements for medical product development, including knowledge of federal and international regulations, such as FDA QSR, IEC 60601, ISO: 13485, 14971, 62304, and 13485, Medical Device Directive or other regulating agencies is required.

Exposure to the operating room environment and sterility protocols.

Experience with CREO and ANSYS for design and static analysis.

Ability to function well under pressure and expend effort to meet schedules and deadlines.

Excellent interpersonal skills, can work individually or in a team environment to complete objectives. Able to communicate effectively to peers, subordinates, and Senior Management.
