The Sr. Performance Engineer will support Five9s Performance Engineering objectives. The candidate must be familiar with standard software development and quality processes, methodologies, and tools. Must have a proven track record of very high technical competence, which includes strong coding, analysis, troubleshooting and scripting skills. Must possess strong technical leadership abilities and ability to mentor peers and staff. This person would be required to work cross-functionally with a number of teams to ensure Five9 products meets/exceeds customer expectation. The ideal candidate would have worked with software development and test automation teams to mimic production workload, improve code base performance, reduce resource consumption and shorten request latency.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Able to understand and articulate non-functional requirements properly, making each NFT testable and able to quantify

  • Create & maintain volumetrics, workload models, and service level objectives.

  • Create and manage application performance risks.

  • Partner with development and Architecture to implement performance best practices.

  • Establish service level targets.

  • Establish and ensure application of performance design principles & patterns.

  • Knowledge of different types of performance strategies and tests and when to apply them to gain useful information on system performance characteristics and patterns

  • Ability to develop performance test scripts using open source (e.g. Jmeter) and industry standard (e.g. HP Loadrunner) tools

  • Review and approve test design and test execution.

  • Define performance monitoring requirements and alert thresholds.

  • Develop performance diagnostic procedures

  • Drive triage of performance-related production incidents.

  • Perform root cause analysis for performance problems.

  • Identify performance tuning opportunities and remediation options.

  • Provide required input to capacity planning activities.


  • Knowledge of multiple application infrastructures and strong communication skills are required for this position

  • Possesses a strong background in performance engineering and analyzing multi-tier applications, and web applications

  • 7-10+ years experience in the performance testing and engineering discipline

  • 5-7+ years experience with various monitoring/profiling technologies

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field required, Master's degree preferred or equivalent work experience

  • Proven ability to perform profile/baseline, load and stress testing

  • Proven ability to drill down into results and complete deep dive root cause analysis

  • Proven experience and best practices in requirements management, test case development, test analysis and reporting results

  • Excellent communicator, proven individual contributor, team-oriented
